First of all its really great having an site where car seekers & car users can collectively make a difference in choosing the right car. ive driving a ford 1.6 for more than 4 years. its an awesome machine in its own; except for the petrol bills. ive been looking for a new car for about 2 months now.
I have tried all the cars right from the indigo to the safari. luckly, I have the versatality on the price band. I had heard a lot about the swift-D, but unfortunately we here in hyderabad have no demo car / test car.and rightly so as mentioned in one of the reviews, the dealers are asking for 40k on the actual price. I only got to test drive the car from my friend whos got a new one done about 5500 kms.
Promising him a short drive, I crancked the car. rightly so as mentioned by most of the reviewers, the car is very low on noise & vibration. I can just put my driving experience in a word..THRILLING. The car literally pushes you back when you really step on the gas, its just like the brute power un-leashed. its almost the same as you would experience in the verna or the optra magnum.
I am still amazed as to how such a small 1.3 L engine churn out huge power & torque ? I found the gearing ratios pretty comfy for the city driving. the real fun started when I actually hit the outer ring road , the car seems to beg to be pushed to the limit. I was hitting 140 kmph within no time of getting on to the road. it literally flies. some how I was not very comfortable at the speed, may be because of the tyres, which I feel seriously needs to be up sized, & secondly it wasnt my car... what started as a small test ride ended in 60 km ride till I got a call from my friend who was waiting for his car...
To summarise , its truely an exhilerating car for its size, maruti motors have really hit upon the right combo of the engine & gear box. the lower weight of the car has certainly benifitted the pick up, I really wished there was a little more room in the car, the interiors look very ordinary, I think that MUL must come out with another variant where there is a little more pomp in the car, they certainly cannot work on the shape & size, but we can certainly ask for better looking interiors.
Actually, I was so engrossed with the drive, that I couldnt think of cons in this machine.i might have to drive this car again to really comment on it. Going by the speck & performance, its nothing short of a verna or a fiesta. I dont know how many of you have observed the figures of performance of this car, but its at par with verna & fiesta. this is what had attracted me to try out this car for a while. but the sorry state we are in ..
We have dealers who have no cars for test drive.least that the bookings are for another 5-6 months.
really wish MUL does something really fast or we might be heading towards the same era in 1993-1996 where dealers ran to the banks at the expense of car enthusiasts.
