I have purchased a wagon R LXi 10 months ago.And have covered 8500 KMs till this time. So I feel this is a time to write a review.
Like many of others , I also had a confusion regarding which vehicle should I go for. I was considering only wagon R and Santro after the initial elimination round(Swift was my favourite , but it was out of my budget). Finally I settled for wagon R since I find the sitting position bit more comfortable(I am 6’3") and my relatives have already owned 2 wagon Rs and according to them it is cheaper to maintain.
So coming to the vehicle, the looks of the vehicle is subjective but it is OK to me(eventhough I like the old design more:)), and in the new version, rear seats are not split folding which I feel a letdown compared to previous version. The vehicle is always comfortable for 4 people , but fot 5th person it is not at all comfortable. The ride over potholes is not very bumpy and it can handle small potholes with ease, but it rattles over the potholes(the rattle was from loose window glasses).
The vehicle is very easy to maneuver in city and tight places due to its narrow dimensions, and getting inside and outside of the vehicle is relatively easy due to high seating position. The A/c is really good and cools the cabin efficiently I never need to keep the blower more than 2 out of 4 speed levels. And it is really fuel efficient.60 % of my travel is on highways, and rest is on roads with more traffic . And I am consistently getting an overall mileage of 15-16.5 kmpl till date.(with 50 % of the time AC on).
And another good point regarding this car is After sales service. So far I am satisfied with their service,
Now coming to the cons of this car.The biggest letdown is it’s gearshift. The gear shift is really needs some getting used to.It is really vague and rubbery. Not at all slick like santro or swift. Also the pick up is bit less compared to santro. The quality of interior plastic parts like door handle, centre console etc are inferior though they are cleverly designed with lot of storage spaces.And the engine does not feel as smooth as that of santro, swift or old zen. At times , especially in traffic which requires more gear changes, I fell I should have gone for santro:) . But when it comes to service , I fell my decision was right. (I work in city but stays in a town.Maruti service stations are available in both places , but there is no hyundai service stations near to my home.
So I feel this car is really good especially with good fuel economy and availability of service but I have to comment that gear shift is really bad.
