Maruti Suzuki Zen - Petrol

Hey Zen Rocks,

I have a 2000 model carb Zen. I think Zen is a very good second hand buy, New was bit costly

for me at that time.

It the most affordable small DRIVERS car having true sporty charecteristics.

Though mine is just 50bhp the mpfi 16 valve produce 60 bhp even better .

Lets start:

1. It may seem sluggish at low speed but once it crosses a rpm range u can feel the

secondary butterfly of ur carb open and certain surge in power.

1. Ac is very good Alto produces 47bhp and Zen 50bhp. but with AC on Alto struggels

but not the Zen.

1. Its sooo peppy that you would love the third gear and dab it down to see the surge.

   
   




2. Best handling , and with new tyres its marvellous.(mine is 13" 145/70 R13 stock MRF)

   
   




3. PLease fill Extra premium petrol and feel the difference. Smoother engine sound,

   
   

Great foot response.Great mileage.

1. I have fitted Sony 600w RMS amp, JBL 1000W woofer, Pioneer Head unit, really the car has

good aquestics and the music sounds very well being a small car. However due to over bass

my car dicky gets loosend and rattles.

Future :

1.I plan to fix K & N air filter which will give 2 to 3 % improve in power not affecting economy.

2.Free flow exaust, again which will give 2 to 3 % improve in power not affecting economy.

3.Fill Engine with Fully Snthetic Engine oil.(Fill and see the smoothness of the engine)

(For around 10000 rs spent u will have a sports car in ur garage)

The only affordable car which can come close to Zens drivability is Esteem.

My Zen was suffering from poor pick up and low milge

Milge before : 9 to 10kmpl

Reason 1: Cluth was hard : carried clutch overhaul / Very important reason for less pick up and economy

Reason 2: Engine tuning

I thought of selling my car once due to low economy , but now all sorted out its again reborn.

Now there is lot of improvement in economy as well as the pick up and torgue.

I feel my car is flying as compared to before.

Milge Now : 12 to 14kmpl

Those where the good , in my 3 year owning the car I had my share of failures but still

i love my Zen

   I recommend People who want to buy a new alto get a second hand Zen and do some minor repairs,

   
   

Zen is definetly more satisfying to own and drive than Alto.

Zen has the best small car engines around.

Maruti should have discontinued alto and retained zen with some price cuts.I wonder

how such excellent 1 litre aluminium engine maruti has phased out.
