My family and I travelled to Mauritius for the 2005/2006 christmas holidays for about 14 days. Started in Seattle, British Airways got us to London and we got on an Air Mauritius flight to mauritius.
The flight was one of the best compared mostly to useless american carriers, but the service could have been a bit better. Flight was on time. We arrived to the little island and the scenery was amazing, the blue sea, the mountains, the small towns and sugar cane fields.
The hotel was a dream, "Le Saint Geran", was the best in my whole life. The ocean front was speechless.
The hotel arranged a number of tours to various places such as: iles aur cerfs, Port Louis, Gris Gris etc...and they were amazing.
The local people were so inviting although there are bitter moments but all was well. No LACK of food. Food is everywhere and numerous cuisines mostly chinese and indian. The cities are always bustling with people despite its tiny population.
The best experience by far in this trip was the sea, it was breathtaking, it such a change from american beaches. The sea was crystal clear and the sun was always shining and the best sunsets ive ever seen.
We stayed in Mauritius for the new year and it was fantastic, fireworks, the seafood on offer is like more ive seen on TV and its all local produce and the taste was truly exotic.
The day we had to leave back to Seattle was a sad day, I didnt want to go back at all. Truly amazing Island.
Highly recommended place to visit, very different from a trip in New York or London.
