When I first told my friends that I was going to go to Mauritius, the first thing they said is wheres that? Not many people know of the beauty that lies in the Indian Ocean.
Situation:
The small island of Mauritius lays 800km from Madagascar. Mauritiuss brothers and sisters are the islands of Rodrigues and Agalepa (you can visit these islands by boat)
WOW!
My parents originally come from Mauritius, and when I was 6 years old, they took me, for the first time. When the captain said that we were coming into Mauritius now, I was too small to look out of the aeroplane window, and my mum wouldnt let me stand on the seat, I couldnt wait to get off. The first thing that greeted me was a slight drizzle of rain (we came to Mauritius to get away from the rain!!) anyway, I saw a rainbow over beautiful, high mountains. From then I am still in love with it!
Mauritius in dept:
When travelling in Mauritius, you will mainly see sugar cane plantations (it covers 45% of the island) If you get a chance to see how sugar is made, go - its great fun!!
The capital city is Port Louis, (and you guessed its a port.) During your visit to Port Louis, there are many things to go, see and do. You could go to the market, and see the natural history museum (its MASSIVE) - and entry is FREE!
All the other major cities (Rose Hill, Quatre Borne - just a few example) surround Port Louis.
While travelling to Mauritius, you MUST respect peoples religious beliefs. Mauritius is mainly made up of Hindus. The second religion to denominate Mauritius is Islam, then RC.
Key Facts:
WATCH OUT:
WHILE IN THE MARKET (PORT LOUIS OR OTHER MAJOR CITIES) PEOPLE MAY PICKPOCKET YOU. MAKE SURE YOUR BELONGINGS ARE SAFE!!!
Beaches:
Face it the main reason why people go to Mauritius, is for her beaches. And I have to admit they are BEAUTIFUL!! - The sand is smooth, and crystal like, and the water is clear, and of course warm!! If you are living in a hotel, they should have a private beach!
Hotels:
Because I have family in Mauritius, we didnt need to stay in a hotel, but the best hotel in Mauritius is Le Coco-Beach - trust me ITS BEAUTIFUL!!
Weather:
Over all the weather is HOT, HOT, and HOT!! - But don’t go in the months on April - June - its cyclone season!! :S
Nightlife:
Where do I start? - Nightlife is EXCELLENT. There are casinos, there’s Sega dance (the dance of Mauritius) and nightclubs!
My personal op:
Mauritius is a beautiful island, not disturbed or influenced by the western world. Go to Mauritius to admire its beauty, to look at different cultures, and of course have fun!!
