GASTRONOMIC DELIGHTS N OLD WORLD CHARM

Mavalli Tiffin Room, which is popularly known by its abbreviation MTR is one of the last remaining symbols of old Bangalore charm.

It is located at the heart of the city or rather the lung as Lalbagh Botanical garden is just a stones throw away. MTR has maintained its reputation for over 60 years now and the brand MTR is still going strong. It has catered to the taste buds of millions of satisfied customers over the years and the hallowed dining area has fed many a heads of state.

MTR is basically a small hotel , serving vegetarian cuisine which has become immensly popular and a symbol of trust. Many fast food outlets of MTR has cropped up of late, but they lack the charm of the original hotel.

The taste of food served is exceptional and the preperation, very hygienic.MTR under the new propreitor Seema Maiya has forayed into the packed food segment and the result has been phenomenal to brand MTR to say the least. The ready mixes, spices and food are a raging success in entire south india.

No travel bag of any south indian travelling abroad is compelete nowadays without the ready mix food range of MTR . It has become synonymous with purity , hygiene and taste.

But sadly, the hotel’s ambience and decor remains very dull and can do with a generous dose of facelift. The restaurant look stale and does not appeal to the newer customers.

The service is poor and reminds one of a government canteen. Even the waiting area is unimaginative and benches are offerd as seats. It gives the impression that the management dont care a damn about the patrons as long as their coffers are getting filled.

However, the food is excellent to taste and something to savour. Only this makes us forget that we are seated in a dingy room. I strongly recommend the coffee and rava idly served at MTR.

Its a nice experience to visit MTR once when in Bangalore, but the massive crowds, long periods of waiting and the dull ambience will take a toll on you.
