Maximum City, is all about Mumbai. The living city documented as it is and not as it appears from outside. The nitty gritties that are in the book are very well written & these are something that a normal mumbaikar would not notice until s/he reads the book.
I would give it to Suketu, for the flow, language & writing style. Except for the last chapter (on the jain munis) I think he has done it all perfectly well. The last chapter too is good but I felt it was a bit stretched.
One more important thing is that someone who has not been to Mumbai or stayed here for a while would not be able to appreciate the finer aspects of the book. its not that they would not understand or enjoy it but a mumbaiker would glee while reading the paras.
I would say that this book is definitely good buy. It has alos won the Orange-Crosswords book of the year award.
