I used to see the advertisements of Maybelline’s various products on TV with an expression of ’just-another-lipstick/mascara-making-tall claims’.....till I actually tried some Maybelline eye make-up; and I must say that I am impressed!
One fine day, my sister sent me some stuff with her friend who had flown down to Mumbai. The first thing I removed from the parcel was a bottle of ’Maybelline Volum’ Express mascara--Waterproof’. ’Oh my God..whats this? Me? Mascara?’ Doesn’t she know that I never ever use eye make-up? Never mind...I can always use the other stuff she has sent
Let me tell you that I had often looked upon eye makeup as something which would eventually make me look like a racoon. My fear was always ’what if the eyeliner comes off...what if half of it comes off & half stays on?’....’what if the mascara runs down while I wash my face? Would I look as if someone’s given me a black eye?’ I hated the idea of constantly bearing in mind that I was wearing eye make-up and being extra cautious I would have to think before washing my face..before rubbing my eyes....before crying... (not that I do it very often). Oh no, I dont think I will use this I was suffering from, what experts would term as ‘Mascar-o-phobia’
There it was, the little grey bottle with its packing intact, lying in my drawer for I don’t know how long. I had been seeing how well my friends applied mascara and how comfortable they were with it. I really envied them. One day I rummaged the contents of my drawer looking for something when my eyes zeroed in on the mascara bottle. ‘Why not’, I thought to myself, ‘Maybe I can try it out at home first…see how it looks and then maybe wear it when I go out’
I tried it once and believe me I was hooked!! Mascara was not so bad after all… and it didn’t stick to my eyelashes in the form of globules (like I had imagined). This mascara was REALLY GOOD. It had an anti-clump brush (a patented design of Maybelline, NY) to ensure that while applying, the mascara doesn’t form clumps in your eyelashes & doesn’t give that heavily-made-up look. The multi-level bristles of the brush, comb the eyelashes while the mascara is being applied so that it is applied evenly. It has a unique waterproof formula so that even if you wash your eyes, the mascara stays on. Moreover, just one coat is enough to increase the volume of your eyelashes and the best thing is that it looks 100% natural. It adds to the beauty of your eyes and gives a different look altogether. However, it DOES NOT triple the volume of your eyelashes…thank God for that; otherwise we would end up looking like Sridevi in her ‘Himmatwala’ days!!!
This can be used anyday…everyday and you don’t have to think twice before washing your face (hheeee ha ha ha). After this I am much more open to the idea of using eye make-up and have started using eye shadows/eye-liners etc. on and off.
By the way, the bottle has to be closed tightly after every use otherwise this product tends to dry up very very fast. At the end of the day, when you really want to remove the mascara, you can just close your eyes, put some cream (or any mascara remover) on your eyelashes and remove it with a cotton ball.
I believe these mascaras are available in many colours…but hey, I am not that adventurous and I stick to good ol’ black!!
