McDonald’s in Mumbai

McDonald’s Family Restaurant, the world- famous fast food giant, opened their first outlet in Mumbai a few years ago. Here is my review on the restaurant.

The Hygiene is quite satisfactory. Good attention is paid to cleanliness. I have no complaints.

The ambience is pleasant .Mostly, the crowd consists mainly of kids, their parents, college students and teenagers. At times, you feel as if you are in some college canteen. (You soon realize you are not, when you see the prices. Canteens are cheaper.) Overall, the atmosphere is nice.

OK, * enough of ambience, come to the point now. How is the food?

The food is good. (I never call food ‘bad’ unless it is unhygienic.) Here, the hygiene standards are maintained well.

They have burgers with vegetarian and non- vegetarian varieties. There is Mc Veggie, salad sandwich for the vegetarians and McChicken, Chicken Grill and many other varieties are for non-vegetarians. There are the famous French fries and soft drinks like Coke. My personal favorites are the milkshakes and sundae that one gets here. There is also coffee, softy cones, Chinese burger, etc.

The burgers taste fine, but they are over hyped and over priced.

So, the food is fine as a novelty, but it cannot be my first preference.

The Service is average. Basically, it is like our staff/college canteen where you have to do the balancing act of finding a place to sit while carrying your food tray. (Ok, ok, I admit that I was a bratty kid.) Now that I have grown up and all, I am perfectly OK with the ‘self service’, but some people find it really difficult to walk holding the tray. They should start some training program for these people. As we are talking about training, they should also teach people how to eat those burgers properly.

The Time factor isn’t effective. Fast food, isn’t it? But, due to the queues, the waiting time cannot be avoided. So, it’s not as fast as it should be.

Kids seem to have a good time there. They get complimentary gifts like balloons or toys sometimes if some promotions are going on. (The bigger kids won’t mind the gifts either. McDonald’s, Are you listening?).

The Pricing- Its not at all cheap. If I go elsewhere and pay in the same range, I get good quality tasty food, and better quantity.

-----------------The verdict--------------------

Ok, now I have listed some good points and some bad points. McDonald’s is a place to go when you don’t have any other options. At Mouthshut, we have to choose either ‘yes’ or ‘no’ for the recommendation. So, I cannot say ‘umm…well…. may be…. once in a while …or…no…it’s junk food…May be…’

So, I have to give my verdict, and I say No.

Why?

Well, I don’t see any reason why one should switch to the fatty junk food at McDonald’s when one has so many better options that offer food (paneer makhanwala, Veg Kolhapuri, malai kulfi etc. in my case) that is tastier, healthier, having more variety, where one pays in the same range if not less and where the service is also fine.

I am not going to promote junk food anyway!
