Why the patient does not matter at Medanta?

My time at Medanta is a horror story and will take too long to write. But here are the BIG reasons not to go to Medanta:




  1. Priority is on optimizing infrastructure, not patient care. For example, room booking is on first come, first served.  You cannot plan to get admitted. So any patient will need to wait - no planning possible.




  2. Second priority is optimizing doctor time, again not the patient. Most information comes from nurses, who read things out to you.




  3. Doctors are too busy and miss basic things. In our case, the doctor was aware of a prior heart condition but did not tell us to stop aspirin. This delayed the start of treatment but of course after my father spent a day in the hospital.




  4. There is no single person / team responsible. So in our case, the dietician recommended one thing and the doctor another. Blood samples were taken 3 times within one hour, since teams do not communicate with each other.




  5. No overall planning. So for example, my father is going through both radiation and chemo. It is up to us to ensure that both are happening, no-one from the hospital cares, and the two departments will bounce things between each other.




  6. The patient comes last. Once lunch was delayed by more than 3 hours, because a doctor had to see him and was suddenly free




  7. It is a fish-market. Very noisy, very crowded. Once my father had to wait for 12 minutes for an elevator.






Overall, the doctors come highly recommended, the equipment is probably good. But prepare for lack of transparency, ping-pong between departments, excessive waiting time. Also, make sure you ask questions and understand everything because you will be the only person responsible.
