An old culture worth knowing

I saw Memoirs of a Geisha yesterday and I was amazed to know that Geisha culture is an embodiment of the ’Moving’ art form. Geisha being a person of the ’moving’ arts

Geishas are NOT prostitutes. Although in the past the right to take their virginity (an event called a mizuage) was sold, they were not obliged to have sex with any customers, even the men who paid dearly for their virginity. This was a class of professional women in Japan trained from girlhood in conversation, dancing, and singing in order to entertain professional or social gatherings of men.

Mouthshut.com has some excellent reviews of the film. I enjoyed the movie and would just like to add on some information about what was said in the narrative during the film as it was heavily ’’accented’’! The above information is a jist of that narrative.

This is a movie adaptation of the novel, produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Rob Marshall.

See the film and appreciate an old culture we have not seen in our lifetime(!?)
