Let's kick some alien bottoms

This film is about Men In Black, the people who visit you when you have encountered an alien.

The Characters:

•Will Smith as Agent J.

•Tommy Lee Jones as Agent K.

•Linda Fiorentino as Laurel.

•Rip Torn as Zed.

and directed by Barry Sonenfield.

This UFO myth has been going for a long time and is what inspired the Marvel comic on which the film is based. I’ve expect you’ve never heard of the comic because it only ran for six issues but due to the success of this film I’m sure it will resurface along with a new comic. An animated series is already in production and a sequel has been signed up. So, is the film any good then?

You bet it is. First the plot:

The plot is a little thin on the ground and is only there to provide an ending to the film, most of the time MiB is about the two agents dealing with alien encounters. The film starts with agent K and his older partner dealing with some illegal aliens (Mexicans) trying to cross the border, except one really is an alien. His older partner can’t cope any more and so K retires him. Obviously someone who has been working undercover keeping aliens in order can’t just leave and go home. So K uses a device on him which makes him forget all his years of working with the aliens.

K then needs a new partner, among the few selected for the trials is James (Will Smith). After some brilliant and very entertaining recruitment scenes he is given a choice of staying or carrying on with his normal life as an officer in the NYPD. He accepts the offer.

What follows is an excellent film, which can only be described as a Ghostbusters for the nineties. The jokes are thick and fast for the next hour and a half. To help these jokes are the brilliant visual effects and the brilliant animatronic work to bring everything to life.

The jokes are so many in abundance that you really have to be concentrating the whole time to catch every joke. Will Smith delivers the funny lines while Tommy Lee Jones is humorous because he stays deadpan throughout the entire movie. Put simply, he’s funny because he isn’t. (erm, I think thats right).

I’m not going to say anymore because I don’t want to completely ruin the film for you, but I can say that is does get better and is a very good film and it is definately well-worth watching, i’d give it four and a half out of five, but that aint possible so i’m going to go four out of five.
