Dimaag ki batti jalaa de…

Well, even though I am a mild type of cricket enthusiast, I always end up watching the matches, especially those that are played on weekends. Partly, since my roomies are hard core cricket enthusiasts (one of them actually sits with a leather ball in his hand during the match – GOD knows why!) & partly due to the fact that I actually enjoy watching those advertises that are aired during the breaks.

Most of the new advertises can be viewed during a cricket match. While there are always some who hate that ad break (like my roomies), I always welcome it.

In the last India Pakistan cricket match (in which India won, thankfully!), I ame accross this advertise of Mentos.

The Ad:

Product – Mentos (It’s basically a mouth freshener for those who haven’t tried it yet).

Scene – Hair cutting saloon, a hair artist shaping a customer’s rear scalp hairline (supposedly!)

Event – Due to an untimely sneeze, the hair artists accidentally scraps off a bunch of hair from the rear scalp. The customer learns about this when he reviews the hair cut in a rear view mirror.

The after-effect – In part one (they like to call it Normal Life!) the customer arises from his seat with a swearing face. In another part (which they term Mentos Life!), the hair artist & his companion fool away the customer (U should see the ad for that!).

& finally it ends with the tag line played in background:

Mentos – Dimaag ki batti jalaa de…

I liked this advertise purely due to the wit depicted in this & other Mentos advertisements. Hats Off! The ad maker always comes out with humorous ways to entertain the viewers - & in turn sell the product.

Undoubtedly, the earlier ad was wittier – in which they show a college guy, who enters late in a class room & is showed off by his professor (that was Normal Life!). In the Mentos way of Life, this guy enters the class in a clever manner (again, you should view that advertise to enjoy this part).

Moreover, these advertise relate well to the product. They gel well with the product tag line – Dimaag ki batti jalaa de. So apart from the normal mouth freshening effect, the advertiser has succeeded in informing the viewers that Mentos will help in lightning up the “witty” bulb. I don’t know how Mentos will help or whether it actually helps or not (me been eating it since quite some time, & I’m just as humorous as before!) but I’m sure the ad maker has his wits on a high to come up with such an ad.

& finally, a word of caution to all guys out there – ensure that your hair artist does not fools you the way it’s done in this advertise.

Enjoy...
