This purports to be the music review for the old Mere Jeevan Saathi made sometime in the seventies.
Its a treat for people who like love songs, romantic stuff.Though, most Bollywood hits are well, lovesongs- these songs are truly the food of love. The words are by Anand Bakshi, songs sung mostly by Kishore Kumar.RDB comes up with a score thats made up of very simple, hummable tunes-the songs are for the common man.The man who went to the cinema hall in that era with the girlfriend for a three-hour interlude from the daily routine. He was looking probably for what is commonly called timepass.Art and aesthetics were certainly not up his street. So, its full-blown entertainment. Thus, there is the party song, "Kitne Sapne Kitne Aarman..." that introduces the hero Khanna to the audience in the dark theatre. As they warm up to the masti, there is another party number, "O Mere Dil Ke Chain....".
The hero is driving along the hillside to his wedding. As he anticipates the imminent happiness he yodels his way through "Chala Jaata Hoon Kisike Dhoon Mein".There is the self-pitying song that harps on things like "Sach Toh Yeh Hai Mere Dost Ke Sapnay Hain Mere Aapne.".Thats the song "Diwana Leke Aaya Hai Dil Ka Tarana...".There may have been more songs with some more mass appeal but I can only recall the Helen cabaret that really gets you feeling a little uncomfortable in your full-sleeve-"
Aao Na Gale Lagao Na...".So there.
