I still remember that in 1994 when I was in 10th standard (matriculation) I came to know about the launch of an exciting film with two exciting stars, that were great sridevi the comedy queen and of that time rising action star akshay kumar... the overall impact was soooo exciting that I started counting the days of release of this film and it was expected to be released in the end of 1994 or in starting months of 1995.
BUT.. ahh..alas... God knows for what reason I kept waiting and waiting and waiting.... and that film was shelved for very strange unknown reasons , despite of the fact that it was 90% completed... NOw in 2004 when I did my masters and now doing a job for the last one year, this exciting dream of my matriculation Now come true and MERI BIWI KA JAWAAB NAHI is released after WHOLE 10 YEARS (phew..) of its launch in 1994. And u will be surprised that after 9 and a half years (90% of the film was completed in the first six months of 1994) it is still 90 % completed film..
The main and title song of this film O MERI BIWI KA JAWAB NAHI is not picturised and another sizzling song o mora sayyan is still not picturised, and some scenes are also still not captured... the producers have released the 90% completed film and use another picturised song for showing these two un-picturised songs on screen. but thankfully the climax is completed and teh overall look of this film is completed.
I must say that if it would be released in proper time (in 1994 or 1995) it would definateky be a super duper hit film. But still even now it is a superb entertainer as it grips your attention from start till end.
The story is quite simple. The village belle, Durga (Sridevi) has married her sweetheart Ajay (Akshay Kumar). He is a cop in the city (I believe this is his 4th appearance as a policeman), and arranges for his wife to come live with him. She is from a small ?gaon?, so she talks a bit too much and is very blunt. At the beginning it seems Ajay is embarassed of his wife, but all is well in married life.
Durga is a very strong female persona (probably based on the Goddess Durga). She fights for justice. She makes enemies quickly as she destroys a bar and beats up many goons. The bar belongs to Bharaiv (Anupam Kher). He is a weird man who attacks press editors and harvests kidneys from poor people. Bhairav gets SP Chaurasia (Kiran Kumar) to get rid of her.
So our story continues . . . Durga is friendly and quickly befriends a girl Radha and her brother Ballu (Gulshan Grover). One day Radha is kidnapped and taken to a prostitution ring because she loves Bhairav?s son, Shyam. Durga learns of this and saves her. Just then Chaurasia takes them both in as witnesses. In reality, they are accused in court of being prostitutes (Ajay is conveniently sent out of town to complete an assignment). Durga is labelled a bad woman and the rest of the film tackles how her name is cleared.
The story works due to one person: Sridevi. She has a true flare for comedy. Her dialogues will make you smile, akshay kumar is likeable in a light role.
the songs are picturised very well .. special that goggel song and sub pyar mohabbat jhoot.. shoot in which sridevi try to shots akshay after every 10 seconds and eating a water melon like a mad cow because of her drunked condition.
story screenplay, direction and acting all are a one.. I still feel very bad about the late release of this film and teh ignorance of audience due to late release impact. beleive you me this film is still a real and superb entertainer and u will enjoy each and every minute of it, a must see.
