I boarded a Meru Taxi from Sion East, Mumbai last night at around 1:10 AM that is on 09th of December 2016. The driver started the cab and asked my location after few minutes on the one way. I told him the drop location which is my residence at Malad West, Mumbai(distance is around 20 to 25 kms). He informed me that the Meru company has informed all the drivers not to take the straight route as it is unsafe during night due to safety reasons of the customer and the driver and took a completely different route. When I reached my destination I was shocked to see my bill that was Rs.984/-. It usually costs me not max then Rs.350/-. He also not provided me with the bill as he told me that there is no bill book in the cab. I unfortunately did not note the number of the cab as I was too tired. He dropped me at around 2:45 AM. I called Meru call center in the morning to check about the new policy and they informed me that the company has not informed any drivers about avoiding routes for night time safety.
I told them about the incident and ask them to take a strict action against the driver. He just conned me. I believe that the Meru driver thoroughly cheated me by misleading me and taking me from a long route in the name of safety during night.
I would request all the customers of Meru cabs to be aware of such horrific incidents and they find anything suspicious then report it immediately which I missed.
