* * * * * Sweet Love & Sin of Metro Life * * * * *

Few come to a city with lot of dreams, few without dreams. People who came with out a dream go without attaining anything. Those who struggle for their dreams have to sacrifice many things they hold dear to them. That is the price Metro asks from them.   You may have to sell yourself.   You may have to give away your belongings and beloved.   Still they attach with Metro since they know there is no escape other than that. The metro life trained their mind to be hard.

"We pledged our life to buy a flat, but that didn’t made our home" says Shikha (Shilpa Shetty) looking at the relation she hold with Ranjeet (KayKay Menon). They are married for years. They have a daughter who is loved by both, but is a silent listener to their fight in the family. (The child is a silent character in a metro, as her voice didn’t be heard and her choices are limited in four walls of the room.)   Shikha and Ranjeet worked hard to settle their life in a Metro. Ranjeet is well settled now with a business to manage. Shikha sacrificed her career to take care of the child. Ranjee could not however understand the mind and needs of a wife sitting at home nor able to undertake control of his or his wife’s emotions. No wonder Ranjeet opted for the key of flat of one of his subordinate Rahul (Sharman Joshi). Rahul carry the broken ambitions of his father who died with his dream to construct a beautiful house. He decided that he will fulfill his father’s dream at any cost. A key to his flat was his trumpet since he knows that in Metro space is the most valuable asset.   Rahul loves his colleague Neha (Kangna Ranaut) not knowing that she is a child of Metro and mistress of his boss.   Neha’s parents abandoned her for their freedom. Her boyfriend cheated her as well. She decided to take liberties to get good advantages in return before she realize that she has come down to the status of a prostitute. The result of sin is death. Metro teach her to be tuff, but she has to live in the same metro.   Neha’s room mate Shruthi (Konkana Sen Sharma) is sister to Shikha and she is the Metro spinster looking around for boys to get married. She is not beautiful doesn’t stop her from dreaming. Her meeting with Diru (Irfan Khan) ended up as a nightmare where a 38 year old Diru didn’t find anything abnormal when he stared at Shruthi, when the Kurtha slipped a little. Both are doing a Metro life, moving around to find a good partner.   Shruthi throw a question to her sister Shikha once she got a date with her charming colleague, "Is it okay to lose the virginity before marriage?" a doubtful Shikha asked who it is, Khudia don’t want any further advise, as she know to decide what is good for her.   Khudia however is flattered when she realizes that the guy who fascinated her so far is a gay. Shikha has to made up her mind as well to decide if adultery is okay since she is been fascinated by a writer come actor Akash (Shiny Ahuja). She is impressed.   He is too a victim of a Metro. who in Metro’s eyes is a failure and there is no space for failed people in a Metro. His wife left him since she knows he is a failure. (Anurag didn’t explain his wife’s status, but I would like to connect that link to the prosititute who comes to Sharman) He is not ready to accept defeat, but the Metro life doesn’t leave him from the clutches. See Metro to understand these characters well…involve in the situations and attach the emotions. There is a closely knitted situational story in the film to follow.

Power of the Script is the highlight of Metro’s success.   When emotions and situations well mixed with stand alone characters to a real life situations of Metro, we cannot ask for more from Anurag. If you can imagine a Priyadarsan film where all lot of characters and situations are tied with a cord and at end all chasing to a place…Anurag succeeded in doing exactly the same with enough depth, sufficient comedy and Powerful characters and message.

The cast performed exceedingly well.   You expect the best and still satisfied. Shilpa did an excellent job, so is others. Cinematography was excellent and Music and BGM well supported the proceedings. I only thought a little variation in the music would have been better where the director decided to keep the Gangster effect throughout. When a director’s duty is to see the totality and extract the best, Anurag can be proud that he is among the finest directors Bollywood has ever produced.

Unlike other bollywood movies Metro throw more light to human emotions. The director takes his heart out with his life experiences. He depicted the moment of sin (Adultry) in its purest form...fantabulous way. When Shiney’s hand reach to Shilpa’s belly….I am sure the shivering of emotion will surely reach to your belly too. The perfect moment of sin bollywood ever shot so far!

Double standards exist in society is no secret. When a woman commits adultery man cannot pardon that. Where a man do it, it is pardonable. Why this hypocracy? Anurag made a perfect situation in the film. Sex in Love and Sex in prostitution is different.   Sharman’s adventure with a prostitute gives the simplest example.   A shy Sharman asks "do you want water or coffee…"she asks "do you have condoms…"

"Marriage do not come with guarantee cards. If we wait for all green lights, we will not be able to take our car out of garage" Observe Irfan. We have to take risk an face the situation. Move with the wind.

It is not that our emotions or love will end, but time will end. Darmendra & Nafisa Ali has a track too in the film. Love and even sex is not time bounded is the message Anurag try to pass from the episode. The moment you separate your mind and decide to do what your mind tells you is correct, there is no sin and it will set you free to have a perfect relation.

If you look closely this movie is another series of a collection of stories, but the success of Anurag is that he hided it in the positives. There are surely some flaws in the script, but many will not notice it as they are already hypnotized and entertained by Anurag to the maximum. I can skip those loose tags.   When you come to Metro, you are part of it, move with it and live with it. This Metro is beautiful one which teaches you a lot, entertains to the maximum and makes you satisfied. She is a spinster, a seductress and wife.   With whom you want to go?   I don’t mind watching the movie again and again!!! Go for it!!!
