Fresh and beautiful...Metro Rocks!

One city. Countless emotions**"- is the catchline of the spectacular Metro promos currently on air. ’Life in a Metro’ by Gangster director Anurag Basu, boasts of a stunning ensemble star cast

which comprises of the likes of natural actors like Shiney Ahuja, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kangana Ranaut and Kay Kay Menon among others. Given these credentials, the movie already sounds very promising. While the fate of the movie will be decided later,  I can definitely vouch for the fact that the music absolutely lives up to its

expectations. The ’Band Metro’ has been quite hyped and the fresh voices it brings forth only add to the charm of music composer Pritam’s beautiful creations...

The album gets a dream beginning with the track ’In Dino’. Sung to perfection by singer Soham, In Dino is a track about

finding true love and allowing oneself to be swept away by it. Its lyrical as well as musical magic at its best as the track unfolds.

There’s a remix for this track and its pretty decent..But the original

has a certain charm that is better off without any frills.

"*Hain tujhe bhi ijaazat

Kar le tu bhi mohabba*t"

Just as a world of love and bliss has woven itself around us, we get a

taste of an oft experienced, harsh reality of life. A loved one who has said ’Alvida...’. This is a track ithin KK’s comfort zone and he doesn’t disappoint at all. This song begins with soft notes and progresses to higher and higher chords as the feelings of anger, betrayal and sorrow mount. An absolute gem of a composition!

This reappears later in the form of a reprise by James. That version is

equally impressive and packaged with more passion, owing to James’

vociferous vocals.

"*Dono baahon ko, thandi chao ko

Hum bhi kar chale alvida..*."

O Meri Jaan is a pure and sweet love song...Though its the common-est genre of music today but its very different from the ’heard-it-before’ theme. Whether its KK’s magic again or its perhaps

the rather innovative climax, O Meri Jaan is also a winner all the way. The third track in succession you can’t help falling in love with.

Suhail serenades us later with his interpretation of the song. This guy will definitely go places..he is simply amazing.

"*Dil khudgarz hai, phisla hai yeh phir haath se

Kal uska raha, ab hai tera is raat se*"

Bangladeshi singer James is back after the beautiful ’Chal Chale’ in Woh

Lamhe. This time he gets a different field altogether. In Rishtey,

he sings about the hollowness of relationships today. The many ties and

chords in our lives which turn more superficial each day...Full of

variations and well composed stanzas, this is also a fine track.

"*Jisko bhi dekhiye woh adhura sa hai yaha

Jaise kahi ho aur wo aadha rakha hua*"

"Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si" is bound to take the listener back to

his school and college days. It radiates that old innocence of being in

love, waiting for moments, those wakeful nights and those beautiful

dreams...Pritam couldn’t have had better vocals than what Suhail gives

him. He has an immensely pleasing, sweet voice and puts just the right

emotions in his words. The background music is just a light guitaring,

in order to emphasize on the vocals. An extremely feel-good and

enamoured track...;)

Adnan Sami sings the same song in his own trademark style. It isinteresting to compare the two versions especially as Sami is pretty good too. Only this time, the song is more energetic and peppy, and less romantic. Same is the case with the remix which apears later on.

"*Keh de mujhse, dil me kya hai

Aisa bhi kya guroor

Tujhko bhi to ho raha hai, thoda asar zarur*"

After all those magnificent gems, Kar Salaam comes across as a mediocre number. Pritam, Suhailand Soham together tell us that we should salute life for all its blessings and take it as it comes. It has some funky beats and is totally set apart from the previous songs. It could seem more appealing if supported by interesting visuals.

"*Kyun jindagi se ho shikava gila

Yeh hasti hai roti hai, jo bhi hai jaisi hai

Jo bhi yeh deti hai woh hai tera*"

Love...heartbreak...hope...celebration...Pritam has hit the bull’s eye yet again with his magnificent musical score. He is ably supported by the other Band Members. The ’soft rock’ genre is not only pleasing and

different, but at the same time, truly melodious.

In dino, dil mera mujhse hai keh raha

Metro...sun le zara...;)
