Some of the things that I would like to ask these serial writers, especially those of metti oli and annamalai -
Dramatic song and dance beginning
Why do you always show cheerful people in the title song but the same people in a deplorable state of distress in the actual serial? Are we to take the title song as something thats not part of the serial ? Or is it like in marketing parlance, just a good demo while the actual product sucks ?
Calm and Storm
Of the few times when you do show happy people, why does it have to be invariably followed by the same misery, same fighting, tears and arguments? Life is full of ups and downs. Does it have to be shown in such stark contrast ?
Following Formula No. 1
Most regional language serials , even the Hindi ones I believe follow a typical formula. There is a saree-clad, thali and / or sindoor adorned woman (in metti oli its metti adorned too!) who is unnaturally patient about everything that goes around her. She is the embodiment of goodness, to the extent that is humanly impossible. Again, in stark contrast, the mother-in-law is the symbol of all evil and malice. The hero, her husband treats our heroine like shit, while her in-laws (esp mother-in-law) make mincemeat of her. There could be many more such women in the serial, mostly sisters of the heroine as in metti oli or foster daughters as in annamalai . They are of varying degree of goodness, of course much lesser than our heroine. Cant beat her you see!. If there is no mother-in-law character, as in annamalai, there is obviously, the baharwali or the other woman who is a vamp. She is the megalomaniac usually wearing chunky jewellery and clothes and who travels in the biggest cars and lives in palatial houses. Thankfully in metti oli, this vamp character is not very dominant, though they did have such a character with a husband who was conveniently away in another country. Thats some saving grace!
Finally, in the battle that wages between the good and evil, in true mahabharata style, the good emerge victorious over evil. Want more ? Even the evil ones suddenly turn over a new leaf, all because of our heroines goodness! This usually happens after years of scheming and plotting to kill our heroine (courtesy, good old chitti serial which was a craze a couple of years ago). Well, I expect something similar to happen in our on-going metti oli and annamalai as well. Atleast, the dramatic victory of our dear heroine looks quite certain..
Ugghh..cant just wait and watch it all happening..
My advice: There are definitely better things to do in life!
