Flush after the birth of our baby girl, we were happy, exhilarated and tired! After changing nappies, getting up at odd hours and living according to the whims of the toddler, we decided we needed a tiny break. 5 months old, the little bundle of joy was now able to lie on her stomach. This gave us the confidence to take her out for 24 hours. I scouted for a place not more than 25 - 30 kms from home. MGM Eastwoods was recommended by a couple of my colleagues. After speaking to its Manager over phone, I decided to give it a try.
We reached there a little after noon and on request were allotted accommodation with a view of the pool. Situated close to the well known VGP Golden Beach Resorts, this is a fairly new resort among the many that are mushrooming on the ECR(East Coast Road) in Chennai. Among the first that we noticed was the fact that it was well maintained, though relatively small. Decided to have a swim before lunch. The swimming pool may not be very large, but is good. There is section 7 feet deep and the pool is well maintained with a life guard moderating the activities in the pool. The idea of the swim was to sharpen my appetite and enjoy the lunch. However, the food did not live up to our expectations. There definitely needs to be some attention in this department. Else the good work done by the others may not be sufficient.
After the afternoon nap, we enjoyed an evening stroll in the resort premises. This was fun as the layout and ambience of the resort is pleasing to the eye. There was a group who were probably on a business outing. They created noise(in the name of loud music) till late in the night. The management could probably have done something about this in the interests of other guests.
How to reach: 20 minutes drive from Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai
Room Tariff : 2K per day( taxes were waived after some bargaining)
Bottom Line: Go as group, negotiate tariffs and demand quality food(order in advance if required). For a family it is OK for days break, but you may have to accept what is on offer.
