After reading bad reviews on other UPS, I decided to purchase Microtek UPS (for charging my modem) from a company called Direct Sales and Services. One Mr. Vasanth did the installation. I was told that it would start working after charging for 10 hours. But to my shock, the back up didnt even last for 5 minutes even after charging for more than 24 hours!! After calling repeatedly for 2 days Mr. Vasanth turned up finally and replaced the UPS.
My condition was that I need the beeper off when the power goes for which he said he will send a service person to do it as it is a 5 minute job. He kept postponing saying he is out of station on work and 3 months passed with us tolerating the irritating beeping noise of the UPS whenever there is a power cut. 2 days back, I called on the number and was told that he is no longer with the company !! They sent one Vijay(9845003718) to check on the issue and to my shock he said I will need to pay Rs. 200 to turn the beeper off as its not a part of the service. He refused to do the job unless I agreed to pay the money. I could no longer bear the annoying beeping noise, so I let him take the UPS with him to turn it off with a condition that it be returned on the same day (Their service center is just a km away from my place). As expected, I got the UPS back after repeated calling in 24 hours time.
I bought the UPS to save myself from the stress of repeated power cuts and I work from home very frequently. But the after sales service has caused me double the stress. I regret having opted for Microtek UPS and would never want to upgrade to an inverter from them (which I was planning to when I shift to own house next year).
Also, when there is a power cut the power flow is not spontaneous. I get disconnected from my internet and the connection is resumed after a minute or so.
I am not sure how the service is from other companies, but I would definitely not look at Microtek in future and would advise the same for others.
