~~~Destiny's Lovers~~~~~
Week after week audience expects new and new stories for their release. English, Hindi, regional languages, other countries all over the world, they expect new stories. From where the writers bring all new stories every week? The mission of a writer is very difficult. There is a modern day villain which any story teller has to overcome, i.e. mobile phones and internet. They changed many chances of a story writer for good. ’Milenge Milenge’ is one such last piece of the movies where there is no mobile phones and internet connection.
Priya (Kareena Kapoor) is a young talented music choreographer, studies in college but carry dreams of falling in love, getting married and having children. A card reader predicted that she will find her life partner on the 7th day. She has no choice but to believe this as the card reader told important events of her past so easily. Destiny took her to Bangkok to attend a student conference, more reason to wait for the lover. The destiny also brought Immy (Shahid Kapoor) to Bangkok and by accident he reads the diary of Priya. Determined Immy presents himself as the destiny’s lover boy for her. Immy had all bad habits which Priya don’t like. Immy pretend as her boy of dream but will he succeed? They put a test on destiny by writing their contacts on a 50 Rupees note and a book and move away in different direction. Will destiny bring back them together??
The story though not matching to the present day facilities hold a suspense factor which works good at times. The screen play could have been much better, where in the present form it depends more on destiny and thereby made the climax predictable from the beginning. Even with that the film could have worked, but the writer misses explanations in turning points of the story, on all occasions. Satish Kaushik, the director is known for remaking south (may be adopted from Hollywood as well) movies to Hindi and succeeded many a time. Here however, he presented the story too dramatic and less convincing. There is special effort is visible to make the movie special.
I liked Shahid Kapoor in many of his films. However, in this film he is less effective. The boyish look in the film doesn’t help where his usual pleasantness is missing in this film. Kareena Kapoor is cool like in her many other films, but her performance is just average. (Despite the poor show in performance, the chemistry between the pair is working, especially in those song sequences.) Rest of the cast didn’t have anything to act to begin with. They all did their small roles well. Director could have exploited the stars better.
Music is the highlight of the movie. I enjoyed it thoroughly as it is well mixed to the mood of the film. The Choreography too supported the songs well.
Cinematography is quite good. Editing is ok.
Overall, the movie is watchable for the ’romance’, the subject and songs. Don’t expect anything great from this love story which could have told much better then, it is a movie which can engage you for 2 hours.
My rating: 2.5 stars
