So I’ve been playing a lot of Minecraft recently(a whole lot of Minecraft, I’m addicted to it, please help me!) and OMG! It’s so immersive that at first I was all like “what’s all the hype about? It’s just a stupid game” and then I played it and I was like “why didn’t I buy this game earlier?” and here’s my review on Minecraft.
Minecraft is an open-world strategy game which is made entirely of blocks called “chunks” and you can destroy any block, place it in your inventory and you can place down the same block wherever you want. But not everyone plays the same game. In Minecraft there are different worlds called “biomes” and some of the more common biomes are Ocean biomes, forest biome, plain biome, snowy biome and mountain biome. The one I was spawned in is a mixture of mountain, forest and plain biomes. There are two modes in the game- Survival mode, where you try to survive while battling off monsters in the dark(we’ll get to that later) and Creative mode, where your supplies are endless, there are no monsters and life’s good. I chose Survival mode because Creative mode didn’t have a challenge.
Survival mode is almost like the Creative mode but with a catch. It has a hunger bar and most importantly monsters. In Minecraft, monsters are a varied bunch. There are zombies who are slow but relentless, the God-awful creepers who blow up in your face and blast you to smithereens, ender men who only attack you if you look at them, skeletons who try to kill you with their bow and finally spiders, who are just ordinary spiders but they’ll kill you. Monsters only come out at night so don’t get worried, but monsters will spawn in the day if you go into really really dark spaces like underground caves or mines. Hunger is also a bit annoying sometimes as you have to find food but I have found a loophole for not eating.
The main attraction of Minecraft is the mining aspect. In Minecraft you punch blocks until they get destroyed and drop a small block. You pick this up and if you have a bunch of different blocks you can craft items with it. Minecraft is a bit confusing for beginners because of a lack of tutorials within the game meaning that you have to constantly refer the Wiki which destroys the flow of the game. But once you get used to it there’s no stopping. So get ready to have all your confidence destroyed as the awesome things you build are a hole in a mountain, a treehouse and a box while other people build awesome things like the USS Enterprise, a working 16-bit computer that can do math and a 1:1 scale of Denmark.
All-in-all the game is awesome and super addicting. Warning, if you start playing this you won’t be able to stop. But if you do decide to check out the game, let me know what things you guys built.
