Well I have been through all these so called reviews on the MOD and with no disrespect to any of them I would say that none have really come close to the truth.sadly corruption is very much a part of the defence as it is elsewhere.the ministry of defence is not, as the name suggests, run by the men in uniform. it is a government organisation and is basically run by beaurocrats. the service personnel that are there and as was found out in the tehelka tapes do serve there and are also one with rats that want a slice of the action. if everyone is doing it then why shouldnt i? this kind of thinking or philosophy for an armed forces chap is also fed by the feeling that his contributions to the nations security have been going inappreciated and not only that, the world seems to be going hostile towards faujis let alone there being respect towards them. this is what fuels the angst and the smarter ones just go with the flow especially when working in places like the MOD.
there to raise a voice against any such nefarious activities would mean insant transfer to one of the forward posts.all it takes is a signature by some babu sitting behind a desk.or conversely all he has to do is keep his mouth shut, enjoy the lavish benefits showered upon him and keep signing wherever he is told to.tehelka should have happened ages ago and at various places.
ihave no solutions to offer to this seemingly unsolvable issue. only one thing I feel can change this ministry and heck the whole nation for the better would be to do away with the damn chalta hai attitude that really has seeped deep into our psyche. everyone has to be accountable be it the highest office of the land or just a ministry.let the country look bad to the rest of the world, because by pushin the muck under the carpet one isnt cleaning the room he is just hiding the dirt.
