As the Semitic religions say, there are the ‘chosen people’...they suffer for centuries and then get a time to take revenge.... we can digest stories...but it is impossible to ...when it comes live....
As the politician takes out quota from his quiver...
As the politicians loose creativity and will power, gimmicks and tricks come to play. Now, the simple logic of wooing the so-called ‘backward people’ or minorities succeeds.
There are several arguments about the reservation system based on the castes and communities. Being a Keralite, I cannot neglect thinking about this issue. Kerala is a land controlled mainly by the OBCs. It is a fact. Still the intellectuals say that they deserve these privileges because once upon a time the brahmins ruled the land. But now the OBCs have business, money and they are powerful players in the education business. Do they deserve more?
The mistake
Once reservations were needed to bring the ‘then-unprivileged’ section of the society. Those sections should have got the facilities to come along with the others.
Compulsory primary education (implemented successfully in Kerala), subsidized coaching facilities for competitive examinations, study aids, electricity connections, psychological conditioning etc are the real solutions. Provide the facilities and an ambience. The government can only bring changes like this. Where individual skill matters, quotas are not to be implemented. The society should be groomed from the grass-route level.
The Creamy-layer
As OBCs are becoming ‘privileged’, the creamy –layer in it, is going to score double benefits. This can ruin the total educational and employment sector of a state like Kerala where they add upto 75% of the population.
So
be conscious ...be prepared and ask your conscience ....do we need quota? In such an advanced society is there still exist ‘the chosen people’?
