There is nothing much the ministry of power can do:
hang on! lemme tell you why:
(1) individual states decide on various heavy subsidies (freebies!!!) for various category of users ( say farmers, industries etc for you-know-why)
(2) the various PSUs (or public sector units) have run up staggering dues to the power corporations for power utilised by them
(3) there are certain amounts of power losses when power is transmitted from one place to another; these losses are very high in india.
(4) topping it all, there is this phenomena called power theft - by domestic users like us, small industries, political parties (for road side meetings), etc
The government has to draw up a broadplan to address these issues and prevent over-drawing; plan and add more generation; encourage use of alternate energy systems, say solar powered lighting systems for atleast public places to start with, well I could go on.
We have the expertise, technology and the wherewithal; what we need is some hard decisions,
a clear vision and action.
