The third installment of the Mission Impossible series, this film features tom Cruise who has left active duty at IMF and is training instead. He is engaged to a doctor Julia (Michelle) who knows him as a Transport Agent. He is called back by IMF to rescue a hostage from the clutches of Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman), a ruthless arms-dealer. Rest of the movie is all about how Tom manages to beat the villian!
An out n out action movie, MI III is exciting from the first frame. it also incorporates some heavy-duty emotional stuff as the villain harps on Toms weakness for Julia to get his work done. Tom, on the other hand, displays histronics as he watches his beloved gagged in front of him and shot to death! The stunts, though good, are now as awe-inspiring as Id have liked! A bridge-scene remins ond of the one in True Lies whereas a Building-jump-scene in Shanghai is, well...half-baked! Plot-wise, it neither is wafer-thin nor meaty enough but is just sufficient. There are all the technical gadgetry one would expect to see in such a movie and features only one good car ! There are few edge-of-the-seat moments but not that chilling. The standout performance comes from Philip Seymour Hoffman as a ruthless villian who would go at great lengths and is so sadistic that he shoots his own aide! But his end is very very tame!
It is a good move, better than part II but not in all departments. Id recommend action-buffs to watch it but others can very well give it a skip and watch An American Haunting instead.......chilling I hear.
