Mission Kashmir

As movie stories go, there are plenty of movies on this much hackneyed theme of victim (Beta) turns into super Terrorist !;

If we are talking of Kashmir and terrorists, you have plenty there - Roja, Pukar; and so on have already traveled this way. So in that sense this movie doesnt really break new ground.

Its multi-star cast also follows a general formula, although Jackies role, or rather the lack of it, leaves much to be desired. Ditto for Sanju’s wife.

The only actor who came across as sincere was Sanjay Dutt, and for once he has managed to portray his feelings well, especially since he was previously only known for his dumb muscular look. The well made scenes, where he goes through the agony of losing both son and wife, just goes to show how much effort he must have put into this film.

I wouldn’t like to write PLOT REVEALED or anything like that for the very simple reason that there isn’t much of a plot at all. Nor is there any suspense as you normally get in spy / detective type thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat.

Actually, at some parts this movie is quite depressing, as it nicely shows the agony that innocent people go through, when politically created jihads are wreaking havoc with the lives of the common man / woman in Kashmir. A classic case of a beautiful and scenic place destroyed by man’s greed and treachery; remember Beirut before the terrorists destroyed it ??

It also shows how the ultimate terrorist can be created from innocent victims of bungled shoot-outs between cops and terrorists, where more innocent bystanders than terrorists are actually killed.

Other than the main theme, there is precious little of other story in it ; a rather amateurish plot of firing some missiles at mosques and temples. Initially you are told that this is a dangerous mission, which require just one very daring person (enter Hrithik!), but later on you can see that there is precious little that he has to do, as there are more than enough flunkeys around to pull the trigger ; they manage to bungle even that!! And they are supposed to be terrorists !

Although the special effects are technically good and the film shooting is very picturesque, there is very little else to recommend here.
