The trio of last year dark horse "Bheja Fry" is back with Mithya. Do not expect a roll on the floor this time but a good time is guaranteed. It makes u laugh in first half but the story suddenly takes a serious turn in second half.
Ranvir Shorey(VK), a Bollywood struggler hailing from Noida, with uncommonly realistic actor ambitions. VK is content standing at his regular wine-shop and picking up his quarter-bottle of whiskey. He asks the shopkeeper for his free drinking glass, a demand made with the considerable ease. So sits the actor with 15 yrs of on-stage experience, drinking cheap whisky.
The film is quite breezy & last lil approx 2 hrs which’s quite good coz Bollywood movies are famous for running 3 hrs+.
Ranvir is given an extremely good author backed role. He’s scared, inspired, romantic - all often in a 40 minspan. He does very well indeed to capture the pain and the helplessness of the troubled Bollywood xtra. He makes the character real, a common, believable man in an increasingly bizarre situation.
Vinay Pathak(fondley remembered as Bharat Bhushan in Bheja Fry), is given a shorter role here, but he justifies his role. Ranvir & Vinay rock the screen with their mind blowing on screen chemistry once again( Khosla ka ghosla, Bheja Fry being the earlier occasions).
Saurabh Shukla and Naseeruddin Shah clearly enjoy riffing off each other, and Harsh Chhaya seems to be having fun with his own character.
For the first time, Neha Dhupia has proved that she can act as well as look good. She has done well & completely justified her role. Let’s hope she gets meatier roles in future too.
Mithya is a sharp film, a fun in the first half, but changes suddenly in the second half & becomes a tad serious as well.
One of the major flaws is the background score. But *so far this is the year’s best Hindi film, GO 4 IT!
