Beware of MM mover's unfair practices

When I hired MM Group Packers and movers to do a local move, they came across as a professional company with a smooth talking sales guy (Aakash) and CEO (Abhilash). They surveyed my home, came in with a low quote, gave me some good customer references and got my business. But on the day of the move, their workers arrived late (around 10 AM), worked slowly with lots of breaks during the day and around 5.30 PM wanted to leave due to a local festival, leaving me stranded with half my things at my old place and half in the new place!!

They had all kinds of excuses for not completing the job, such as - our packing was very complicated, when in fact the agreement was that they would pack all the furniture and breakable items, but when we saw the workers’ speed we told them not to pack most items, since it was a move within the same apartment complex. When I called the CEO, instead of being helpful he was adamant that their job was for a day’s work and not for completing the move!!! And it was a 9 to 5 job, mind you, like a government office, not like any movers you may have seen who typically come early and work late to complete the job.

Any other honest businessman would have apologized for his workers leaving early and would have compensated by completing the job later (and not make the customer suffer due to their personal reasons to work less number of hours that day). But, not this CEO, no sir! He wanted his full payment and do rest of the job another day with fresh charges as if it was another fresh move!!! All along it was understood and implied that the move would be completed in a day. They had surveyed my place and made an assessment about how many people to send for how long. If they made a mistake in that, the burden should be on them to compensate for their mistake. Their contract did not mention anything about not completing the job if the day was over, or the working hours for one day. When I wanted to hold only 15% of the payment till the job was completed (most people would have held 50% or more), the CEO went ballistic saying I was money minded, and all kinds of hilarious arguments. His people kept haggling me for two hours to get the full payment and in the end I paid them in full just to get rid of them, even though I knew it was unfair to me.

I was stranded, so I had to pay them for one more day of move and get the rest of the things moved, but it kept me wondering how such companies are able to grow with such unfair business practices? The consumers also do not demand and let these people get away with such practices. Look at the following hilarious quote from the CEO in an online article about this company’s success, I can only say that he is joking. If he meant any of his words he would have treated me differently.

“I have great plans for the company’s growth and expansion, right now I only want to focus on providing better services for the existing clients to gain goodwill and increase the scope for favourable word of mouth promotion, ” said Abhilash.

I caution you to beware of this company. If you DO decide to go with them in spite of this review, please have proper agreement on the terms and conditions very carefully.
