Its quite some time since this movie has been released ..So I guess almost everyone is aware of the story. Well, Mohabbatein managed to bag some awards at the Filmfare night this year. Ofcourse the awards went to the two `main characters, Amitabh who plays Narayan Shankar, the head of Gurukul School(which was shot at the Oxford university campus)and a love lorn Shahrukh with a cool pair of glasses and a funky new hairstyle...He plays the music teacher Raj Aryan.(Aryan happens to be his real sons name too!)
Well Amitabh won the award for the Best Supporting Actor. And Shahrukh won the critics award in the Best actor category.
According to me, Mohabbatein was a cool breezy movie, very entertaining, had some melodious music and displayed some terrific talent. When I went to see Mohabbatein, all I expected was some light entertainment and thats what I got. It had been a while since a good romantic movie had been released. And I was actually sick of Ajay devgans, Bobby deols, and Akshay kumars fighting & kicking with the same ol villians in the same ol so called original scripts with a `Oh so obvious climax, ..So, Mohabbatein came as a refreshing change, original & different script, new faces, light comedy, no violence and melodious songs by the duo Jatin lalit. The new comers have tons of energy and talent and seem amazingly comfortable. Uday Chopra was good at comedy. Also a special appearance By Helen took us back to her golden days!
Aditya Chopra should have restricted the love stories to 2, but nevertheless he did a great job. Specially with 4 love stories to handle, you could actually go haywire and story could ended up hotch-potch with a confused bunch of audience. But he defined every character exceptionally well. Thanks to him. Also I guess this role & movie proved to be a decent and acceptable comeback for the Big B. Shahrukh plays a mature and different role for a change too.
The movie had its scratchy moments(according to me), Ash hovering around as ghost, Shahrukh giving his lengthy, never ending dialogues(he tests my patience!)though the dialogues were impressive.., 3 couples prancing around in every song...And if you are one of those front seaters in the theatre, you probably wouldnt have a clue what the other 2 couples were upto!.Also the movie was a whole 3½ hours.
Somehow almost everything about Mohabbatein is beautiful, but in the end somewhere something seems incomplete. Thats how I felt after watching it.
But to sum up its a movie worth watching, just for its beautiful settings, amazing talented star cast and awesome screen play. Three cheers to Adi Chopra!
