Yep...abracadabra. thats what jatin lalit have done here. taken 3 albums....mumbled some infamous mantra and turned them into one album. the three albums being aditya chopras previous movie ddlj, yash chopras dtph and their protege n buddy karan johars kkhh.
since I had been waiting for the movie since eons, not much thinking was required before I picked up the album at first sight. on my way home...i listened to some songs, none of which I had heard earlier. they all seemed pretty hummable and a bit too familiar.
on reaching home, I plugged into my headphones...and wandered off into the beautiful world of mohabbatein...hehehe. and thats when I really liked it.
the first song, humko hum hi se chura lo, is the winner hands down. undoubtedly one of the best love songs since long. lata mangeshkar is wonderful in this number, putting in oodles of love and desire. udit narayan is good, but doesnt do much beyond being just a companion to lataji.
follows chalte chalte...which again is pretty good. theres lotsa instrumental music in this one, and the three voices sound good once you get used to them.
the sad version of chalte chalte which comes later in the album is even better. it sounds really poignant and heart broken and definitely touches a chord somewhere.
next in the line is pairon me bandhan hai...which just about passes. this song and another similar one, soni soni ...celebration songs (sorta punjabi!) arent as good as the rest..but dont really disappoint.
aankhein khuli is again for a celebration... theres less of indianness in it and its much better than the other two nacho gao stuff. definitely uplifting.
mohabbatein love themes is one helluva piece of instrumental music..makes for wonderful hearing...especally for those in love with instrumentals. the album ends with zinda rehti hain mohabbatein, a shorter version of humko humise...but with different lyrics (strange ones, at that) and much more force and vigour. another top class song. sounds phenomenal. the song brings to life the the chopra dream of making an epic on love. again, its the lata mangeshkar magic at work.
overall..you get very touchy, feel-good music.though it is reminiscent of ddlj and other movies, the album is well worth the money and much more. if for nothing else, buy it for the two songs by lataji.
one just hopes jatin lalit come out of their artists block and start churning out fresh music once again.
