Mohar: The pawn, fair enough to watch once

Title : mohra: Pawn for what ?

Review : Mohra: The pawn This age old movie made the big bucks with the muscle-power of Sunil Shetty-Akshay Kumar, most popularly the wet, sensual and hot Raveens, not to deny to some extent Naseeruddin Shah’s Superb Acting.

This flick is a typical bollywood film with all the ingridients one can expect. Love-Hatred-Desire-Revenge-.................

Sunil Shetty is jailed for killing his wife, but as usual he is the pathitha pavan ram, who never harboured any thing bad.

Raveena Tanson is the Press-Reporter under Naseeruddin Shah, who is using her as his Pawn (Mohra). She is to meet SunilShetty in Jail & report about him.

Hero, (he has to be Inspector honest, upright ) Akki is to protect Raveena in her adventures.

What hurts you if you are watching this movie is Raveena’s advances towards Akki. Though Akki is to inhibit her from advancing too far, you are sure to hear from your parents, if they are near side you.

Not much different from the Typical Masala-Entertainer, what differs is Muscles of Sunil Shetty He instantly became a macho-figure after this film.

Inspite of his bad dailogue-delivery, he captures the screen, with his mannerisms. He gave a new definition to emote as a wounded man, whose sole aim is to end his enemies.

Naseeruddin Shah needs a special mention in his role of ’’Vilian in the disguise of News-paper owner’’. His dailogue delivery, mannerism, prowess all say to put the point what a top-class actor he is. It’s a pity that he is not being challenged to prove his mettle. The scene in which he confesses he was using raveena as his Mohra, is too good to be true. He adds vigour, power and brilliance to his role. Alas, he loses in the end.

Any one would have done the role of ’’imaandar pulis afsar’’. Akki does this without much hassle. As usual, he adds punch to the Honhaar aur imaandar Inspector with his smile, stunts and stature.

Music (aka Tu cheez badi hai mast mast, subah se lekar shaam, tip tip barsaa paani) was a run-away hit. Though the main song (cheez badi hai) was lifted from the sumo-sized, large-hearted *-musician Nusrath fateh ali khan.

This film, (though not many would accept) re-introduced the famous ’’Wet in the rain’’ song back to Mainstream Cinema, immortalized by Sridevi in Mr. India. raveena tandon never looked so sensual. With the yellow-chiffon saree clinging to her wet-body, (which displayed every dangerous curve under the fabric) She was too awesome in the movie. Whether be it inviting Akki to feast her ’’badan’’ or Akki tucking her pallu to his shirt, The song tantalizes one to masturabate. There were rumours of love sparking between her & Akki @ that time, understandably she was not afraid to put her pallu down and allow Akshay to have a go on her. Akshay looks thoroughly entertained in the song-sequence However, the same pair could not re-create the magic in Kismat.

Though not correct to mention @ this point in the review, Director Rajeev Rai deserves a clap for the kind of picturisation. (forget choreography) It provokes one to feel that Bollywood has no innovations in store.

Though this song is even fresh today, What needs some thinking is Better and decent means of expressing love. Recall ’’Dekhaa ek khwaab ko yeh gul khile huve’’ in Silsila (It’s a different point that Yash Chopra is the Master of Wet Songs) Or any of Rajesh Khanna’s songs. If love is purer and stronger than love-making, it’s time to depict it by purer and stronger means.

Last Note: We keep haering ’’Masala is only to pull the mobs to theater’’ Remember, when one expects a steamy scene, perosn tends to go to watch alone. But, if one is to watch homely entertainment, he goes with the family. YOu need no brains to calculate when more tickets will sell.
