I wouldn’t say that Monis sucks. At least, not to my expereince.
Food is definitely good. Decor is definitely not bad / garish / bold / crass. It is light colored and good enough for a decent restaurant. The lighting is pretty good - not dark and dinghy as it used to be in early 80’s. Then, it used to be a typical ’’bar’’, with live performance by local singers. This time around everything had changed. It has now become a regular family place. I did not find waiters to be casual. In fact, when I went with my family about two years ago, I was quite promptly attended and the waiters were quite polite and courteous to us.
The only thing I didn’t like it was that family and others had to sit within the same area. There was no separate area, and the result was that there were a lot of males on other tables around my table (I came with my family), who were having drinks and heavily smoking. I requested for a change of table as well, but unfortunately there was none available.
This does not mean that family people don’t visit this restaurant. I did find lots of tables occupied by families. But I think the areas should have been separated.
Overall, I would say it’s an ok place to go on weekend dinners. Definitely not in the ’’sucks’’ category.
