One of the very few watch able entertainment channels in India today is Star World. They had some great shows in the past and even now have some great shows lined up namely, The 70’s show , Everybody loves Raymond , Frasier , Kumars at 42 , 3rd rock from the sun , Friends and now the latest feather to their cap is the hit sitcom “ Monk “ . Monk premiered in India last month and considering the fact that the show made it’s debut in the US only last year , it’s quite an early debut for India. So what is this show all about ? Well , its about Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub ) , an obsessive compulsive detective who had to leave his position as a homicide detective from the San Francisco police force after the murder of his wife . In fact it is the death of his wife that lead to him being a neurotic and superstitious and hence not in a position to handle the tough job of a police officer. But despite his disability his reasoning skills have remained sharp and thus have made him a valuable asset for the police force . Monk is helped in his day to day activities by his nurse turned side kick Sharona (Bitty Schram ).
Reasons why you should check this show atleast once
1stly unlike other detective shows this one is light and even funny at times. But don’t for a second mistake it for some kind of a comedy show. The cases are of quite serious nature and Mr Monk is not deliberately funny.
2ndly unlike other detective shows this one begins with what seems like an open and shut case. Everything seems normal and logical until Mr Monk steps in to present a totally different perspective.
3rdly a great cast . Tony Shalhoub is a respected name in the film , television and theatre circuit. In fact he got the Emmy this year for the best performance in a Comic role for this series – which actually is an irony as there is no deliberate attempt to liven things up in the show !
So folks if you love detective shows then don’t miss this one . But even if you are not in the mood to see some serious brainstorming on screen then also you will enjoy this show for Mr Monk and his antics are great to watch ! The show is aired on Tuesday nights at 9 pm India time on star world.
