The movie could have been called A Punjabi Wedding too without any change in the script, but then ’’What’s in a name’’. If it is a Meera Nair movie it has to be good. I havent seen all her movies but, that is how you write about someone whose creations you like, dont we?
The movie is basically about a family whose Daughter is getting married and what all goes into arranging a wedding. The worried parents, a cute brother and loads of relative from all possible corners of world, Ok not all but, some corners. Worry about the well being of the daughter, monetary considerations, but all this doesnt form a major portion of the movie, so dont worry about the movie being too serious or social for that matter.
The best part about this movie is the romance between Mr. Dubey the decorator and the house maid Alice( I hope I pronounced it right, as I cannot still make out the real name).
The story is not so simple, and there is a few twists in the story line as the Bride to be is still not detached from her Ex.... and a few other issues like child abuse give the movie a bit serious texture.
All in all a fundu movie and the best part is that it gets over in under two hours so even if you dont like weddings it will be over before you start gettin bored.
Humour is the strongest link of the movie and keeps the viewer entertained. If you are very sensitive about the words then Mr. Dubey can surprise you with some really filthy language, but you can always laugh it off. PLease dont take your children to this movie and this is my suggestion, but then kids these days are smart anyway. Oh! I forgot to talk about music, its pretty hindustani and great...
