I would break up this review into 2 sections.
1. Monster as a general purpose job site.
By this, I mean that you are using this website for your normal job searches, free of cost. ON this basis, the site is ok. The design and layout are good and non-cluttered. However, there is a lot of spam by BPO jobs in almost every job category. However, I still feel that monster does not have enough industry contacts to get good quality of jobs.
2. Monster as a paid career service website.
This is where the real trouble is. Their tele sales people will call you and bore you to no end. I got 10+ calls from their sales reps, and in the end almost out of frustration, I used their paid services. The paid services are the following:
Resume writing: THey say that some industry experts completely rewrite your resume to make it look attractive. Price: Some INR 1500
Resume Blast - They send your resume to top 1000 recuiters/agents. Price: INR 1000
The resume writing service is one of the biggest shams I have ever come across! The end prodct was so pathetic that I ultyimately decided to use my old version of resume, making the 1500 Rs I paid almost useless. The resume blast service is again, useless. THey either do not have good contacts or just cheat you saying that they have sent your resume to 1000 people. I mean, there is no proof. You just have to take their word for it!
In the end, I did not get even a single call!
A few days later, I used naukri’s resume blast service and had a good number of quality offers coming in.
The real truth is, Naukri has almost 90% share of the recruiters in India. Monster India neither has good contacts nor has good people on the board to develop business. Such cheats and frauds will never take them any further!
I had written an e-mail to their CEO but those crooks did not even bother to respond !
And for those of you who might be thinking that my CV itself must be week and therefor I did not get any response (a pretty valid doubt, no negatives!) :
I got more than 50 calls after I used Naukri’s resume blast service
I hold an MBA from a premier Indian B-school.
In short, this is a monster which will gulp your money down in seconds and will not give back anything in return. Stay Away!
