Really a Monster!!!!!!!!

Monster.com has become the buzz word among the recent graduates and those searching for jobs. Before I continue about the site, let me tell you guys that I got my present job through this site and I must have applied for more than 400 job positions all together. There is lot of hue and cry that, site does not helps or give out right listing but one has to understand the way their search engine works to search the right jobs for you.

Monster.com is not just the site for the people who are looking for jobs, but its also for those companies who are looking for qualified individuals. Monster.com has become so famous that they can afford the job posting with minimal charge of $300-$400 for 60 days posting and the companies knows that most of the graduates has their resume on that site. So for less money they have wide responses, not only from that place but around the world.

One can say, site is divided into four sections: Search Engine, Personal Account, Career Advice and section for Employers.

Under job search link. one has the options to search with keywords, state preference and the category. With these options one has higher flexibility in doing their job search.

Personal Account allows you to keep track of all the positions you have applied apart from displaying your resume, editing it etc etc and most important job alerts. This helps in keeping track how best your resume fits to the job positions posted.

Career Advice sections has articles about resume writing, facing interviews, salary information, relocation packages etc. This helps not only in perfecting your resume but also when one is not sure about the location, place and standard of living in new place.

Employer section has their won login page thru which they can post the job posting as well as manage their accounts with the site.

My personal experience suggests one should keep in mind the following points when searching jobs on monster.

1) Make your resume unique. Don’t just follow regular guidelines. This will help to distinguish you from others.

2) Put as much details possible on your resume. If you have experience in two fields, say like civil and environmental field, put that both under one resume. This will help the viewer to understand the flexibility one has. (If you do so, be prepared to answer the question: “Why did u shift from your previous field?”).

3) Don’t just wait for the alerts to pop up in your account. Do the search using various keywords EVERY SINGLE DAY. If you have time, go through all the job posting posted on that day in your field. This will give you an idea what sort of positions are open or which part of your line is currently HOT.

4) Don’t just post your resume via monster account. Employers can filter out the resumes if the responses are over whelming. So try to find out the company and fax your resume directly to the HR department. Do the follow up on your submital with the company after couple of days, which is very important.

5) Try to search the jobs in the night, when they generally post new posting. This will give you an edge over others who will be searching it and submitting it next day. But don’t forget to check once again in the morning if any new posting are available.

6) Don’t post more than once for same position or call often to the company. This might irritate the employer.

Yes, like any other site, this site also has few drawbacks but its better if you don’t look at those and focus on your job search which is more important.

All The Best
