The worlds greatest sports event is definitely worthy of a good Christian music tribute…. And thats what both editions of MORE THAN GOLD have succeeded in doing. While More Than Gold 1996 featured the top Christian mainline artists like DC Talk, Audio Adrenaline, Newsboys, Michael W Smith etc,
More Than Gold 2000highlights modern Christian worship music. A giant leap in style that still reflects the true meaning and purpose of sport! More than Gold promises songs of inspiration to run the race of our lives. Basing itself on Philippians 4:13 and I Corinthians 9:25 it showcases the best worship songs in recent times.
The Concept
The album, as it says, contains songs of achievement and faith and speaks of a prize more precious…. Salvation through Jesus Christ The Album Cover: An elaborately designed cover that also features testimonies by Michael Chang (the fame, money and rankings cant compare to touching lives), Jonathan Edwards (Jumping doesnt dominate my life: Christ does) and Penny Heyns ( I woke up and rededicated my life to the Lord). It includes the ltrics, some pics and the works. The Choice of Songs: Ahem….. great.. but….arent there more Worship leaders?! Youll probably end up with an overdose of Darlene Zschech and Darrel Evans… but I really didnt mind that.
The album kicks off with the rather sober, unimpressive theme song More Than Gold after which it kicks into overdrive before slowing down into some intimate worship and then winding up with the rather bland
When its All Benn Said and Done. Yes… theres a lot of my faorite artist Darlene Zschech who shows off her variety in her songs:
Hear Our Voices is a powerhouse of a song and is electrifying. An absolutely rockig combo of acoustic guitars and drumming rule the song and stunning changes in mood and tempo make this song awesome. It features in Shout to the Lord 2000.
All Things are Possible is another lively song featuring Jacques DeShetler that is catchy and upbeat in mood.
Potters Hand is a soft, beautiful solo that has great lead vocals and a flowing mood to it. My sisters sung this song twice in church and actually allowed me to accompany her on the guitar!!! This song really reminds of those 2 great times!!!!! Youll get more of the Darlene kinda music in
Run to You which is performed here by Ron Kenoly. Although his powerful voice rings clear, this song fades when compared to the original Darlene version! ….And then theres Darrell Evans pasted all over the album. My friends performed
Trading my Sorrows at a coffeehouse and since then Ive been a great song of this song. I discovered it at napster first and then this album.
The other 2 Darrell songs Undignified and Whom Shall I Fear helped confirm that Darrell evans was the next worship eader I would hunt for! Martin Smiths Shout to the North is a stunningly lively three chord song that I would really like to teach in Church one day. Its simple, meaningful and powerful.
The most intimate worship song in this album is Robin Marks All for Jesus which is soft and quiet. Theres also a touch of Paul baloche in I have Kept the Faith which has some guitars screaching in the background to some great vocals. On the whole this album helped me confirm that Darlene Zschech was the best, darrell Evans was the next new worship leader I would hunt for and that Christian Worship has come a great way!!
