Value for money, relief from Nokia

New technology, nifty features, and great looks - these are what most of us look for in a new cell phone. Of course, the phone must be small and light, not too childish, sturdy and also be noticed. Well, the Motorola C350 certainly has all this and a great deal more.

It is the latest in the C300 series and comes with a neat colour display, dual band, polyphonic ring tones, WAP, weighs just under 90 grams, and is snazzy to carry.

Besides these main features, you can even customize the software menus according to your preference, create your own menu and even assign your own functions to 2 keys. The phone has a good Li-ion battery that provides a standby of 3-4 days. The reception of the phone is extremely good and its range is powerful enough to pick up calls even when quite far from the nearest base tower.

The most noticeable feature is the colour display which is sure to get you hooked if you have been used to plain green, blue or white displays. It has support for colour wall papers, screen savers and other graphics.

To me, this phone was a welcome relief from generic Nokia designs which have come to look almost all the same.

Now for the performance.....

As I mentioned, the battery is good, reception is very good, features are useful and it is a colour display phone - so it always one step ahead of any other normal phone.

There could have been a few things which should have ben done better though. Shockingly, the phone does not have an alarm feature! I don’t know why this has been omitted (though it is offered in certain countries). After you get over this initial disappointment - which is minor, unless you don’t own a silly clock to wake you up, you will find this to be a good instrument overall. That is - until you see one day that the colour from your covers and keys is chipping off and fading! This is, without a doubt, the worst aspect of the C350. The cover quality is so pathetic, it seems that it was made by some very low cost manufacturer with no quality control at all.

Even when the phone is in warranty, the company claims that it can do nothing about it as ’’it may be due to rough handling’’. I mean - come on! Within a month of purchase?? They’ve got to be kidding!!

Overall, for the price you get a pretty good deal. The shortcoming of no alarm feature can be overlooked and covers can be replaced. If you have been a Nokia user and are looking for a good change, this is the one to get.
