Im surprised at the other reviewer describing this model as palm sized. (Maybe because of the model shown on the photo, actually a Startac). This was bought by me in Jan 2000.
It was on a tight budget and had to choose on between this and Ericson A1018, Nokia 5110 models. The salesman was pushing this model and then I came to know why. Its a lemon and he was trying to sell off dead stock. It had severe problems in reception and used to go off on its own. Had it serviced by Motorola and it is better now. Still the reception is not good and when we go into some buildings, It just goes out.
Voice clarity is not good. I cannot speak to my aged father thru this since he cannot make out anything. I hesitate calling people thru this phone and prefer using landlines. Sometimes it just goes off when picking up a call. Its bulky too, going by todays standards.
The saving grace is that its tough and decent looking exterior. Once it fell hard when travelling by auto. The plastic cover took the scratches and nothing happened to the phone. One other problem is cancelling a call. It takes a loooong press with the cancel button before the phone returns to the ready state. It doesnt have many features either.
Im going for a new phone as soon as my funds allows me to.
