The Moto G4 - the fourth iteration of the line - is no different, and once again offers a decent level of features and performance for a low price.
Design
The design of the Moto G4 is simple, and I think its because of the slightly tweaked look.
Its not as thick as the Moto G3 ( 2015) , but its still not a particularly slim phone, measuring at 9.8mm rather than the G3s 11.6mm.
On the front of the phone theres now just one front-facing speaker, at the top, rather than the two, at the top and bottom, as in the last year edition. It looks clean and simple, with slim bezels surrounding the screen.
The edges of the phone are rounded off, allowing it to sit comfortably in the hand and offering a good grip compared to previous Motorola Moto G series phones.
The Moto G4 comes with an IP67 certification for resistance to some small splashes of water. it doesnt mean it is waterproof fully and you can go to swim with it. It is suitable just for handling a small amount of water splashes.
Display: -
The G4s display is a little larger than the one on the Moto G ( 2015) , at 5.5 inches rather than 5 inches, and unlike the previous phones screen the G4s is Full HD. The bezels around the screen are also much slimmer than before, helping to make this the best-looking display yet on a Moto.
The display quality is also very nice. The colours are very good and also the contrast and brightness features. There hasnt been any problem with the viewing angles even in sunlight and all thanks to the autobrightness feature of the Moto G4 which has been vastly improved over the previous editions of the Moto G series smartphones.
Storage: -
Storage is another key feature on the Moto G4. Its available in either 16GB or 32GB versions. Both the versions include a Micro-SD card option which enables expansion of the storage to extra imoressive 256 GB.! Very impressive.!
Performance: -
While last years Moto G came in 1GB and 2GB versions, here you get 2GB, no matter which storage option you go for.
The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617. Its an octa-core processor coupled with an Adreno 405 GPU, and these, together with the 2GB of RAM, make the G4 one of the most powerful low-priced phones.
Surprisingly it managed a score of 3105 on GeekBench compared to the OnePlus X and Moto G3 and Moto G Turbo that managed to get in the range of 1500-2500.
This proves that the Moto G4 is great smartphone performance wise in its price segment.
Multi tasking isnt also an issue here. It works pretty decently on it. Its most of the time lag free and snappy while switching between different apps. Though it tends to get a bit slow while gaming and heavy usage but usually there is no lag seen.
Software
Software wise, Motorola performs as usual for what it is known for. It supplies the phones with almost untouched Android version and in this case tit is Android Marshmallow. Though it comes pre installed with its well known Moto app that adds some very interesting features to the phone like flip to silent, double twist your wrist to launch camera etc. Except this the Android is completely untouched.
Camera: -
It come with a 13MP rear camera sensor and a 5 MP front facing shooter. The performance is quite decent but in low light conditions it fails to perform upto the mark. If you are looking for a better camera quality its advisable to spend a few more bucks and go for the G4 Plus which has a vastly improved camera with very nice low light conditions.
Both the front and rear cameras, in case of video recording, manage to record a decent 1080p videos.
VERDICT
The Moto G4 is an impressive improvement upon older generations of Motorolas most popular handset and it may well be the best phone you can buy on a budget.
