The Moto Z Play sports a very similar design to the flagship Moto Z. 5.5 inch screen is surrounded by a silver frame, punctuated by a pair of lighter silver antennae. It’s much heavier, trough, weighing in at a chunky 165g. a full 29g heavier than the Moto Z. it’s thick, too, at 7mm. The rear of the phone I s made from a super-smooth glass that’s nearly impossible to grip comfortably. The Moto Z play a 5.5 -inch. Full HD super AMOLED screen with a 407ppi pixel dencity. Full HD is a fine resolution at this size and I experience no issue with jagged lines or blurry apps. I did bump up the brightness a litle higher than I needed to because I found be too aggressive when dimmimg the screen, making it difficult to see.
The Moto Z Play’s camera performance is nothing special, but it handles outdoor shots pretty well as long as you’re not viewing the results too closely. it ceratanily doesn’t come close to the OnePlus 3’s Camera. The Moto Z Play’s maximum 12 megapiexels & has reasonably wide f/2.0 aperture. Decent stats, but viewing the resulting image highlights numerous shortcomings. Outdoor shots with lots of detail- such as tress & complex architecture and stonework- become messy as you zoom in. Images will be for social media sharing on the likes of Instagram for example, more so if you stick a filter and classy vignette over everything. Camera performance is relatively slow, too. I found the autofocus in particular to be a real annoyance. For shots taken over a longer distance, I still felt the need to tap the screen to ensure the camera was actually focusing correctly. Plenty of grain & slightly bright skies in these challenging night shots.
It’s in the performance stakes that the Moto z is very much a mid ranger. 3 GB of RAM is fairly generous and the Qualcomm snapdragon 625 is a perfectly decent chip, but there’s nothing amazing happening here. I often re-opened apps that had fallen out of the phone’s ram way through along story.
As you might expect, paring a fairly middling processor with a gigantic battery results in some pretty amazing in some pretty use figures. It’s battery 3, 510mAh.
