I conducted quite a comprehensive search to determine which the best phones currently is in the Rs ten thousand to Rs fifteen thousand range. Serious candidates are:
1. Motorola Razr V3i (my ultimate choice)
Nokia 6681 (tried-and-tested)
Sony Erickson K750i (best camera)
Samsung D600 (improved version of impressive D500)
Nokia 3230 (cheap with lots of features thrown in)
From this list, the 3230, D600 and the K750i were banished quite easily. Reason? I didnt like the feel and shape of the phones. So it turned out to be a duel between the Motorola V3i and the Nokia 6681. I finally went with the V3i for these reasons:
The V3i is undoubtedly the more stylish phone.
Speaker quality is far better on the V3i
V3i packs a punch by being priced significantly cheaper than the 6681.
But the 6681 is a worthy opponent and packs a punch with better camaera quality and a traditional Nokia user-friendly nature. The V3i is a little different to get used to.... especially after using the 6220 for quite some time.
IN DEPTH ANALYSIS OF MOTOROLA V3i
More than anything else, the V3i is a fully-loaded, dressed to kill style icon. With near credit-card thinness and a sculpted metal exterior, it attracts lots of stares in public. So what else is new? The original V3 managed to do the same, didnt it? Well, this time around, Motorola has taken care to get rid of the problems that prevented the V3 from becoming a bestseller. To a large extent, they have succeeded. Lets look at the features of the phone:
Exclusive steel grey anodized aluminum shell with a distinctive ultra-thin profile Innovative nickel-plated copper-alloy chemically-etched keypad with illumination panel iTunes music software or Motorola’s Digital Audio Music Player with mini-USB stereo headset Large internal and external color displays Integrated 1.23-megapixel camera with 8X Zoom and photo album application Bluetooth Class 1 wireless technology for hands-free connectivity Speaker-independent voice recognition with full-duplex speakerphone Messaging via Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), IM Wireless Village and email (POP3, IMAP4, SMTP) 3D graphics engine for gaming J2ME support for application, ringer, wallpaper, graphic and game downloads
PS- The list of features has been taken from another website.
Lets disect the list of afore mentioned features (in my own words):
- The alluminium shell with ultra-thin profile
I admit it, it feels great to see and hold. A designers dream is what the V3i is: slim, sleek and smart. Totally lovable. The shiny "M" logo is great to view in darkness as well. I really dont know much aboput the anodizing part yet. Perhaps it is to avoid making the phone somewhat brittle.
- Keypad
This is definitely a b ig weakness of the phone. Although it may look space-age at first sight, its durability should come into question once the phone becomes older....... Plus, the fact that it is absolutely flat denies it of any character whatsoever. Be prepared to put your nails into good use.
- iTunes
This is the phones biggest trump card. It is not only equipped with a good MpP3 player, it has the revolutionary iTunes software found on the Apple iPod. Enjoy hours of rejuvenating music using the iTunes. But be sure to ask if your V3i supports this because some phones are not equipped with this.
- Large Internal And External Displays
Nothing great , actually. The external one is good but the internal "main" screen is nothing to write home about. Worse, it doesnt support . EXT format files, a big disappointment, especially since half-priced phones like 6220 do support it. Not for the visually inclined.
- 1.23 Megapixel Camera
The camera too, is nothing special. It is also not done any favours by the unimpressive screen. The photo album application is not too useful, but a good innovative feature.
- Bluetooth
A useful feature for transferring multimedia and other stuff. Pictures, videos and music can be sent from one device to another in a short time. Is also useful as a hands free too.
- Voice recognition
Can someone tell me how to use this feature??? I cannot get the hang of it till now. Please do help me out, my MS friends!!
WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS PHONE?
Undoubtedly, it is the speaker quality and exceptional music software on the phone. Music was never so much fun to listen to from a mobile phone. But ear-phone quality is somewhat poor and there is no FM or visual radio. A 256 MB memory card and a USB cable chord free with the phone are great!!
IS THE PHONE USER FRIENDLY?
Compared to a Nokia phone, user friendliness is not that good. A complicated display style and unclear ways of reaching the feature you want to use mean that this phone is a no-no for first time mobile users. But it is enough for me.
