A couple of days ago, I had gone to a grocery shop to buy a bathing soap for myself as my dog no longer wanted to share his soap with me. Standing there suddenly I heard the Rang De Basanti tone on somebody’s phone. Admiring the ringtone, I looked around for the guy whose phone was ringing with an intention to ’btooth’ the tone into my 6600. But hey, suddenly I see the dhoti-wearing grocer whip out a 6600 from his drawer. Me looked on smudged as he talked on for about ten min before he changed my money. Walkin out, I knew I couldnt hold on to my 6600 much longer as it seemed, just about everybody had this phone.
So I stepped out in the search for a new phone. Not wanting a Nokia as I had gotten tired of them (2100, 8310, 6610, 6220, 6230, 6600......phew) and definitely not a Sony Ericsson as the Scroll in the Sony Ericssons never make it through even 6 months. Even if the SE is a J200 or a K750i or even a W550i. As for a Samsung, there’s only a couple of decent phones they make, the D600i and the S700, but they both were 13000 plus bucks.
Suddenly I remembered a Motorola L7 ad I had seen on the tv, and with a friend of mine already using a L6, I called him up to take his feedback. Now for all the non-gizmo freaks out here, the primary and only difference between a l7 and a l6 is that, the l6 is 10mb fixed, while the l7 is 5 mb fixed but having a RSMMC of 128 mb expandable upto 512 mb.
Pretty cool I thought, and stepped into a shop to have a glimpse of the phone. The guy behind the counter tells me that the phone has a titanium bod and a Scratch resistant screen. ’’haha’’ I laughed at him. So then he proceeded to take out a L6 from the drawer and asked me to scratch it with a key. Me did, no scratch.......Bloody marvellous.
So I took a brochure off him and went back to my house. First thing I noticed was that, the phone indeed looked like it was made by someone who was a huge fan of Priyanka Chopra. Dark, gorgeous, slim and sexy, I was pretty impressed at first sight.
Browsing through, I noticed that the Screen was a 262k colour display and the clarity was awesome, especially if you compared it to a 6600’s 65k colour display. The camera too was pretty good, considering its only a 0.3 megapixel cam. Built with a 4x zoom, I would seriously recommend not zooming upto 4x, as after the 2x zoom, it doesnt really zoom but just enlarges the pic and stretches it.
An inbuilt mp3 player with an awesome pair of headphones provided me with the effects of a hard-rock music system as I listened to ’Elevation’ by U2. The most alluring feature of this phone is that, it has a keypad which has no ’pad’. Its just a key superimposed over the actual chip underneath the body of the phone and thus there is no lateral height of the phone which gives it a ultra-swoony look.
Available at a cool 10300 bucks, the phone is much better than many of the other products available in the market today. A couple of things I dislike about the phone is that, the phone can only store a maximum of 100 messages (inbox+outbox+drafts). And since I used to store like 1200 messages in my 6600 at one time, I found this rather unconvenient.
The next thing about the phone I dislike is that, you cannot create folders in the RSMMC like u did with a symbian OS as in a 6600. Even if you do manage to create folders by accessing the RSMMC from the computer via a datacable attached into the USB, you definitley wont be able to access it from the phone if you even try to do so.
Which brings me up to another interesting point, yeah.....the motol7 has a datacable thrown in free so you can synchronize (blah blah) the phone with your pc. Only thing I do is I transfer mp3’s to and fro. A grand and unique facility of the phone is that everything and I mean everything can only be connected to a single slot in the phone. The headphones, the charger pin, the USB Datacable, everything goes into only one slot.
Moreover, when you connect the datacable into your phone to transfer files, the phone gets the computer to take in more electricity and thus it also charges your phone at the same time while you transfer files. Talk about multi-tasking.
And hey, the best feature of all. You think that ’M’ on the top of the phone near the earpiece is just a ’M’?. Its actually is a light detector. If it detects bright light, for example daylight or a very bright tubelight/bulb, your keypad lights automatically switch off and even if u continue to use the keys, they remain off and conserve the battery unless ofcourse you suddenly have a solar eclipse. When in the dark, the keypad lights do switch on, they emit a cool blue colour like the dashboard of the LML Graptor (heh heh.......i got that too.......i love blue)
The battery standby time is one of the best i’ve ever had, with the battery life stretching upto almost 2 days WITH extensive use of everything, even the mp3 player. Thats better than even the Li-on battery of the Nokias.
All in all, its a great phone......and at 10.3 k’s its a steal, especially since the phone is a sexy looker and at the same time gives you amazing facilities too. So I would suggest to everyone out there going in for a 10k phone, go get the L7. Its damn great and well worth the money. And oh, btw.....if my grocer is reading this.......
....Please.....U stick with the 6600.
And oh, as regards the confusion about the acronym
The SLVR does not stand for SILVER, infact it actually stands for SLIVER.
