We occasionally give our boys soda when we have gone out to
eat, are on vacation, or when that soda machine is calling
to us on a hot tiring day.
I used to buy Mountain Dew thinking it was similar to 7-Up
or Sprite, except more on the sweeter side. I avoid giving
my children any soda with caffeine in it, and so pretty much
stick to the non-colas out there. When I discovered that
Mountain Dew has at least the same amount of caffeine as a
cup of coffee in one of their cans, well that was the end
of serving Mountain Dew to our kids!
Not only does Mountain Dew come loaded with caffeine, but it
is loaded with sugar and very high in carbohydrates. Combine
all of those and serve to a child and theyll be bouncing
off the walls in no time! In a can of Mountain Dew you will
be drinking 15g of sugar and 15g of carbohydrates. Now I know
that sodas that are not diet also contain sugar and
carbohydrates, but you tend to question if there is caffeine
in a cola-colored soda as opposed to a light or clear soda.
If you want a quick pick-me-up, drink a can and you will
have some short-lived energy fairly quickly! One problem
with such a sweet drink is that it really does not quench
your thirst, and thus you end up drinking another can or
even going for a bigger bottle to sip on during the day.
Sugar water and caffeine is not nutritious, and gives you
a false sense of energy, but marketed as sodas they sure
do taste great!
Mountain Dew is a lemon-lime flavored carbonated soda. It is
a sweet drink and seems to taste the best when icy cold.
You can buy Mountain Dew in cans, various sizes of plastic
bottles, and from the soda fountain at several fast-food
places.
If you like sweet drinks and dont mind the caffeine go have
a try -- it may be just what your taste buds were looking
for!
