Mouthshut.com is a comprehensive Person-to-Person (P2P) portal where consumers can write in their reviews about various products and services available worldwide.
The concept of ‘Mouthshut’ is powerful and interesting. NOT a day goes by without the announcement of a new product/or a new model of the product which promises to radically change the world.
The consumer is being taken for a ride by the hype-selling and costly hoax of products are being thrust on us in the name of technology when in fact there is a lot of idiocy behind the technology itself. Thus a lot of expensive humbug is being sold by the vendors without any say by the consumers, in other words… .consumers are being asked to keep their mouth-shut.
This portal gives opportunity for the consumers to voice their opinions, decide among themselves and tell their vendors to keep their mouth-shut. It is a reverse marketing strategy, which is not only unique but also powerful.
I’ll outline the plus and minus points of this site based on my experience on this site for the last few months.
The pluses:
- It is by far the fastest site I have come across. That’s why I call it a blue light portal.
Why blue light ? ? ? Blue = it’s the hottest part of the flame Mouthshut.com uses hot technology.
Light = Since Light travels the fastest , so is this site really fast.
No unforeseen problems in browsing, logging, no form of delays, no sluggish screen updates, no application time-outs, NO BUGS.
It covers widest range, about 150 categories and services and about 50, 000 products, which no other on-line writing site covers.
Navigation around the site is simple and effective. The search facility is good, quick and accurate; site itself is very stable and reliable.
All the categories and subcategories are neatly sorted out in Yahoo.com style and well managed. The star reviews and the recent lists are also sorted according to categories.
Wide range of opinions on any product, subject you choose. The reviews are honest and based on real life experiences.
The site gives ample opportunity to interact with like minded people across the world and share your opinions.
The helpcenter is quite useful as they respond quickly for any doubts/queries/clarifications regarding the site.
The e-mail service is excellent and notifies reviewers when the review is read, rated and comments are posted on their opinions.
There is a stringent filter (thanks to the software) to screen out any four letter expletives used in the reviews.
Another unique feature of this portal is the in-house software SORT (Society’s Opinion Rating Trust) that helps filter genuine reviews from the fake ones. A person if found to give negative comments consistently could be a spy out to tarnish his rival company or a fellow member. Once detected by this software, his reviews will not be taken into account.
Minuses:
Once the review is submitted it goes on the homepage where the last two opinions are displayed ‘High ranking’ for positively rated products and one for ‘Low ranking’ negatively rated ones. In my estimation more than seventy percent are positively rated and generally articles of high quality. The negative articles, sometimes trivial and sensationalistic tend to stay longer on the homepage as thet are lesser in number and tend to move out of the homepage slowly.
The SR and NR rating are not followed by comments. If comments are made mandatory, it can help the reviewer improve and if required edit. It will also improve the quality of writing in general , on the site.
There is no ‘minimum word limit’ for public profile nor is displaying members photograph mandatory. If these are introduced members with multiple ‘ID’s’ and ‘rating their own review types’ can be eliminated.
There are no special incentives for excellence in writing or for writing on the “opinion wanted” product.
Over all this site is amazing and promising. Personally, it is my best online writing site.
