I found this site just about a week back.
I received a mail from an unknown email-id which looked like a junk mail. I generally delete most of those without reading. But somehow this time, I read that mail since it appeared to be from an Indian name and there are not many of those junk mail generating from Indian looking email address. It was about mouthshut.com and I checked the site. I was really excited. I feel, the very basic idea of consumer feed back on internet is really a smart idea. I often found myself in a situation where I needed to know about a product / service in terms of a user experience and found nowhere to go. This site is a great help in a situation like that. Truly speaking sometimes it can create confusion because there can be different opinions about a product or service. But it may still help since the reader may get to know about the pros and cons and a lot of other things.
This is a great site and great service to the consumer society. I really do not want to repeat all the good points about this site that have been mentioned several times in many reviews. I am writing down some of my observations which were not probably mentioned or less mentioned in other reviews.
- There are several commonly used products / services which do not have a single review.
I think mouthshut.com should do something to fill them all. Something like promoting first reviews on products / services by way of giving extra MS points or tag the writers with some special recognition etc. If they agree that one review is not really enough to rate a product / service, they should promote 2nd and 3rd reviews also.... :)
Also I think it will help if the products are listed with some indication mentioning if that product has been reviewed or not. It is sometimes painful to open a product to find that there are no reviews about it.
This site can be enhanced by listing products in a category by their popularity order. For example, if one wants to buy a TV and has not decided which brand / model to buy. If they want to check on mouthshut.com, it would be of great help to find all the TVs listed by their popularity order.
I thought this is a consumer feed back site where people give their views and experiences about products / services. The ’about us’ at the site also just talked the same. But I failed to understand how and why there are reviews about individuals (sports personalities / teams) they are not any consumer product or service. What does it mean when the site says ’MrXYZ is recommended’? Does any one go by feed back of people, to chose whom to admire or whom to follow?
I honestly felt this classification of reviews as out place here. These would attract unnecessary endless debates too.
Now.... I see a lot of bricks flying towards me for bringing out some negative about a popular and useful website. Please take these observations of mine as a constructive feed back about the site we all love.
