I have one grouse against this superb site.
When will these guys change the names of cities from their old names? They still insist on calling Bombay, Madras etc. This is not giving us the impression of a well maintained and up-to-date site at all. I think this is a serious lapse.
Today, I noticed a funny side-effect due to this lapse. I saw one review (well written, indeed) about ’Bombay’ and he put it in ’Bombay’. But, the review has nothing to do with ’Bombay’ but about Indians living in Philipines who are called ’Bombay’ in their native slang. That review is better appreciated in section for philipines. This confusion is due to the name ’Bombay’
Also, Mouthshut doesn’t have an integrated area where I can rate a review AS WELL AS comment on it. I had to do it at two different places. I think anyone wanting to comment on a review would like to rate it also..
I sometimes wonder whether the guys in Mouthshut do actually review or write anything. For example, I always get mails from Sr. Manager-Member Relations of mouthshut called Aarti Kapoor. She doesn’t seem to have written any review so far. She is a user only for people to see her profile. (Look at her amazing guest visits) Strange isn’t it. We need actual guys in the design department, who use the site as we do.
Also, If you visit the sections like hotels, restaurants, shopping malls etc. You find that all major places are listed in all cities, though many of them do not exist in a particular city.
This shows that the site is being maintained mechanically without any application of mind.
Addresses of these places are also not shown in the ’product’ details, making it difficult to find out what we are talking about. For example, We have about 20 restaurants in chennai called ’’Sangeetha Vegetarian Restaurant’’. The product category mentions one in Mylapore without any review under it.
Further, the review writing template is too primitive. Only text is used. We can’t use tables, tabs etc. to give some formatted information. If I use tables (for example, by copying from a word processor) It throws up as some funny codes like etc. I don’t know what they all mean. I can’t provide URL links within a review for further details or reference material. (Good reviews will call for tables and web links..)
