When the movie released in 2007 it simply escaped by notice, but gradually a lot of friends strongly recommended the movie to me. So I managed to download the movie online and watched it. Man oh Man! What a movie da!
Watching the movie was like reading a story from R.K. Narayan. A slice of life from forgotten rural underbelly on India.
The story begins with some brilliant shots of the rustic nondescript village of Rajasthan. In the sparsely populated almost boring existence lies and adventure unimagined.
The story is of a small town government official (Abhay Deol) and a failed novelist who gets suspended for taking bribe As his wife nags him (Gul Panag) on about his disinterest in life mystery lands up quite literally at his doorstep. A mysterious woman (Sarika, still refreshingly beautiful) claims to be the wife of powerful Minister approaches him to spy on her husband. But what the protagonist thinks is a domestic squabble turns out to be a story of a lifetime.
The treachery deepens with the masks falling of the faces of the characters. Raima Sen as young girl helping Abhay Deol plays her part to the hilt. Vinay Patak as a loud street smart brother in law is brilliant as usual. The storyline is very good and with some good editing you are pretty much kept glued to the edge of the seat. The music went well with the movie. Direction is of course great. The story is complex but the presentation makes it simple to understand. Really a worth watch. No wonder it tops the list of movies which was revived on the DVDs. I really wish those guys marketed it better them…
